Update today from CNN.CN regarding the black keypads:

"No news yet, they seem concentrated on the Curve and Pearl 2 parts at the moment. Steve Chan"

Maybe another vendor has them!

He must be getting a lot of inquiries, just got this back today also:
"We have been sold out of this keyboard for a while now. We are hoping the
part becomes available again towards the end of the month, but we've been
told there aren't any guarantees the product will resume production.

Steve Chan"

Greetings,

I have received the same email from Steve Chan... twice... I have been checking since November.

I have given up on him and just got what I wanted on eBay. Granted, I had to buy the entire black shell, rails, keypad, etc and spent more, but the package comes with the required torx.

The eBay seller has a VERY good reputation.

INTENTIONAL CAPS: BE SURE YOU ORDER A QWERTY version and not a AZERTY.

The eBay seller's storefront is here: eBay Seller

The item I ordered is this one:
FULL BLACK HOUSING COVER KEY FOR BLACKBERRY 8800 8830

if the link to the item dies, just search for "housing blackberry 8800"

I hope this helps.

Thanks Marty, I just don't want to spend $60 to get it, I sent him a message to see if I can just get the keyboard. I could care less about a black shell. I would have a harder time expensing this, since I already pushed them for the tethered modem and VZNavigator option.

Seriously, six screws and the shell comes off. Simple! Plus, the housing kit also comes with a complete set of tools: two Torx wrenches and a prybar for the side rails. It really is a complete kit.

My only suggestion for doing the swap: wear latex gloves to avoid getting fingerprints on the inside of the LCD cover and on the LCD itself, and have a can of compressed air standing by.

I had a buddy of mine worry about voiding the warranty and his Verizon-based insurance plan:

1) If you ever need your 8830 replaced, they will not do it in the stores--they mail you a new one and you mail back the old one. You'll have plenty of time to switch the shell back before you send it back to them.

2) If your 8830 is lost or stolen, how will the insurance company know if it's in a different shell!?

Check out what I did. I bought this Blackberry 8800 OEM silver housing for Verizon and installed it myself.

It wasn’t too hard but took a little work but it looks like a totally new phone now. I attached a couple photos.

I don't see an option for a QWERTY keypad at this link.

Just checked their site and it is listed at 34.99. How do you get it for 24.99?

First to sloopercat, you are welcome... but....

My joy was short lived. Three days after my "purchase" I got an email stating that the QWERTY keyboard version was out of stock and that the AZERTY was the only thing available.

I was offered a refund and took it. UGH!....

While I have found many of the same resources as many of this thread's contributors, I have found them to all be "out of stock".

I ended up finding one last night and ordered it. The purchase was made from ... I am afraid to post the link for fear of the jinx it will bring... but here goes... BLACK KEYBOARD FOR TOO MUCH MONEY. As my link states, I think I paid too much, especially considering that cnn.cn was offering it for something like $4. But, anything worth having is worth paying a boat load for.

Supply and demand is ruling THIS market it seems.

Anyway, happy hunting.

Thanks for the link MrMartyMac. I just don't think I can bring myself to spend $44 (including shipping) on a keyboard!

Well I eased the shock a little by ordering a housing kit for a 7250, which some of our users still have, along with the keyboard. Got both for 9.28 shipping.
