Cool 8830 and Multiple Email Accounts - 10-22-2007, 11:52 AM

I've had several users recently ask if they could enable personal email accounts (beyond their BES business Notes account) onto their 8830.

To test this (in order to see what the user would experience) I configured (2) additional accounts on my BlackBerry:
- A personal account (Verizon)
- A test account (Yahoo)

I started to notice that my Verizon messages were coming into both my Verizon account AND my Notes account (which would be unacceptable, as there is no true separation of account messages).

I noticed that if I opened the Verizon account, I could change the "Message Services" to Verizon in the Options...but this seemed to change it globally (Notes and Yahoo settings now also defaulted to my Verizon account).

Am I missing something here, or is it not possible to truly "separate" the (3) accounts?

Thanks

ALL messages will come into the Messages icon - there isn't any way to separate them.

The BIS messages, however, should have their own icon and only show that account's messages.

This is a security issue with some companies, including mine, and we have set the IT Policy so that people can receive email from their BIS accounts, but they cannot send AS the acccount (ALL outgoing mail goes out from the work email address).

One thing I did on my 8830 to help with the mix of BIS and BES messages, is go into Options (icon), Security Options, General Settings. Set the 'Other Messages' option to a color (mine is green). This way when I open a BIS message from the BES folder, it shows green in the background - so I know it's a BIS message.

Thanks juwaack68,

I agree with your logic, and the color-coding is also a great idea!

Thanks again,

What is the security issue with sending from the other accounts?

Also is there a way to setup a separate icon (different than the main messages box) that would contain only the BES emails? The only thing I've been able to do is setup a shortcut to a search that only shows the BES emails in the message box. A separate box would be much easier.

Under General Settings, it's toward the bottom ("Message Background Colours").

Why did they make these changes with the introduction of the 8830 and Curve? For the 8800 and previous models most of my small business clients setup BES for their work email and then added their gmail, aol or ISP personal accounts. The mail was separated (icon on desktop for each account) and all was well. For these very reasons I recommended the Blackberry as the best choice for email capabilities.

There are still icons for each BIS account and the Messages icon for the BES email plus all the others. It's always been this way, from what I can remember. Even back when I had BIS email on my corporate 7520.

Sith, is that new from Empower? I've had the empower html mail reader for a few months and love it. I'll have to try the empower bes mailbox trial. Been looking for a way to keep bis and bes messages separated. Now I only wish there would be a way to make my bes inbox the default messages folder view...
