Default Can I use BIS? - 10-28-2007, 11:57 PM

I use BIS now as [email address]. Our IT administrator forwards all of my work emails to this address. She told me in order to be able to receive email we would need BES (which we don't have) or we could fwd the emails like we do now. We use microsoft exchange server.

I get all of my emails but when I reply from my bb sometimes my replies go into client's spam boxes, and other times they just delete it because they don't recognize the address.

Is there a way to set up my real work address through BIS? Can this be done without BES? Also, would I be able to delete emails from my BB and have them be gone on my outlook?

I have a feeling that I am not correctly utilizing my bb (actually this is my 2nd one)

Thanks in advance for the help here.

Yes, you can have your emails display the correct "reply to" email adress.
Go to your Verion BIS webiste where your BB email is setup, and in the reply address, put your corporate email address.

I don't know if you can setup your email direct through BIS, your IT person should know, and they say no. Even with BIS, though, you can not reconcile your email (such as deleting in outlook) you mail such as you desire.

Unless you are using Exchange 2007, you should be able to integrate your work email with BIS.

As a comment, I would not use the BB email address for anything. The only way to check it is on the BB, no web mail. Plus it is prone to tons of SPAM and junque. And finally, if you should change carriers, or your carrier merges or changes its name, then that email address is no longer valid.

IMHO, The better option would be to use BIS with your company email sent directly to the BB, not forwarded..

BIS works perfectly fine with Exchange if OWA (Outlook Web Access) is opened up or if even the mail server is on the web. Do this, do into BIS account setup and give it your work email address and password. If it completes the account wizard you're golden. If there are problems you'll know. I have several clients setup with BIS and Exchange and it works just fine. With the next BIS upgrade RIM is preparing even 2-way wireless reconsile will work so I'm siked about that. You'll still have to usb cable sync the calendar and contacts, but that's not a big deal. Just sync in the morning or afternoon if you're a busy-bee type person with a lot of changes to your calendar.

I just did this. I can't believe how easy it was. I had to use the URL for our exchange server but that did the trick. I am about 30 minutes into this and the emails are coming about 15 minutes behind the actual send time. Will this improve or is this as good as it gets? If so I'll keep getting them forwarded to the vzw that way it's instant. Actually faster than outlook. By the way, thanks for the help.

A 15 minute interval is normal on BIS. If mail is present, it will poll again in two minutes or revert back to 15.

BES offers instant "push".

Wow. I don't think I'll find that useful. I think I'll go back to the vzw address and go onto the site and just change the "reply as" portion to my regular work email. I think this will also help keep me in the loop if I reply to a message and the sender replies back again. Won't it?

I never notice the delay. Some do. Personal preference.

If you use the forwarding rule, remember to purge your blackberry.net account once in a while. I think it has a 25 MB capacity.

How does one do this? I have been using the forwarding rule for 13 months and haven't cleared anything. Where do I go? Verizon website?

Thanks

Guess your emails aren't that large. I get a lot with attachments.

Open mail on the BB, go to options. email reconciliation, hit menu and select purge deleted items.

I did this but in order to do this I had to change wireless reconcile to "on" then do it. I then changed it back to off. I had moved it to off because I thought it might be eating my battery by trying to reconcile. I seem to be getting better battery life since changing this yesterday. There's really nothing to reconcile for a forwarding account is there?

I might be in a craby mood today but, if a 15 minute delay on e-mails is that critical, get a BES. Otherwise, the only time you notice a delay is when you see the message popup in Outlook. If you can see it in Outlook, why do you need the Berry?

Yea, you're in a crabby mood.

I was testing this by trying to have an email conversation with myself. The 15 minute delay is for every message.

Here's a scenario for you:

Customer to me..... "Hello, do you have 20 widgets in stock?"

+15 min.... I receive email and reply "yes we do they are 12$ each"

customer recivers quickly and replies..... "can you do 11?"

+15 min...... I receive email and reply "yes I can"

customer receives email and replies... "I got some for 10. Thanks anyway"

+15 minutes.... I receive the email and realize if I had quicker response time maybe he wouldn't have had time to contact everone else and I might have gotten the PO. This whole thing took 45 minutes by the way. Using the forwarding rule this could all have happened in 4 or 5 minutes and I probably would have gotten the order at 11.

Whatever you decide, please inform your admin of your findings. I'm sure she'll be happy to know "she was wrong". Hehe, don't tell her you said that, but you can tell her I said it.
