Default Verizon 8830 Data usage. Need Help? - 10-31-2007, 09:14 AM

I just hooked up my 8830 about the 17th of last month. My billing cycle ends on the 28th. I happen to check my bill and found $180 in data charges. I have a $20 for 20mb plan on my account so I am confused. VZW says I used the data. I just can't figure out how. Is there anything about the 8830 that is different then the 7250 or 8703? I am so confused and they are no help.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Does the bill show, in detail, the data charges? How much do they say you used?

Just a warning about this phone. In the email setting there is an Auto More: option. In every blackberry I have had it was always you had to download attachments with the get more prompt. On this one there is an auto more option that automatically downloads attachments if set to yes. I went from about 10 MB a month of usage to 35MB of usage because of this. After and hour and 40 minutes I got most of this credited!

i had a simlar problem. I had the 10 mb a month and got a 400 dollar bill. They swithced my global data plan to the 25 a month plan and then all of a sudeen i got 16 mbs of data when every month i was using ~8. I really think verizon screwed me and just added the rest of the europe bill to this one. I used data in europe like crazy and that bill said i only used 7megs! My reseller was on the phone with them and they said nope, this is nothing from travelling. I think it's BS. So i switched back to unlimited in the US ($45). I am not thinking of going to sprint with the SERO plan cause it could be like 80-90 a month but then that will screw up my family plan with verizon and I would have to buy a new phone. LOL.

Verizon is supposedly going to send me a detailed data report.

Verizons new Blackberry Plans are going live tomorrow $30 Unlimited Data ... I can't wait .. Make sure you call Customer service and have them switch your plan. I don't have any details yet (Still Googling) but my Verizon store guy said they go live on November 1st.

The 8830--with its enriched features--definitely uses more data than previous Blackberry devices that I've owned. My data use has more than tripled. An unlimited data plan is recommended....

I agree .. You need the Unlimited Plan ... It has saved me a bunch of money in Potential Data Charges.

New plans were unveiled this morning, unlimited BIS plan for $29.99, unlimited BES plan for $45. Might solve your problem!

No. It's not. The new plans are $44.99/mo. for unlimited data plan with BES and $29.99/mo. for unlimited data plan with BIS. "Unlimited" means that anything over 5gb/mo. will get your bandwidth narrowed and maybe suspended. VANavigator will unveil for the 8830 on November 8th. Don't think the gps will be fully unlocked, but at least we'll have access to turn by turn navigation when needed.

And it gives you peace of mind...

When I bought my 8830, there was a VZW customer in the store disputing a $1200 bill for data...no joke, I looked over his shoulder and saw the bill on the counter, and the data charge showed $1126.! I had already just decided to go with the unlimited plan, and seeing this reassured me of my decision. Granted, that bill was ABSURD, but, I really don't feel like ever having to dispute even a $300 data charge.

I'll be calling tomorrow to see about the reduced rate.

Well after 2 hours on the phone with them they credited the whole excess data charges. It doesn't make sense that over the last 7 months I used 7-13mb and last month I used 33mb. I have a $20 for 20 mb plan that I am fine with. Needless to say I sent my 8830 back. I am back to my good old 8703E for now.

I see this at least once a week. Someone buys a non-BlackBerry PDA without a data plan, and then get upset when they get charged for the data that they use. The line is always "I didn't use any data, are you calling me a liar?"
