Quote:
Software For BlackBerry 8820 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.321 (Chinese)

Package Version: 4.2.2.321
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.2.2.175
* Software Platform: 2.5.0.33
* File name: 8820CJK_PBr4.2.2_rel321_PL2.5.0.33_A4.2.2.175_Telk omsel.exe
* File size: 76.48MB
Download link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2B6EA7A23A56D2

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Eh, I think it's like ... Chinese, English, French, Dutch, German, Spanish. Something like that.

That doesn't seem right ... I've loaded Chinese OS versions before and they've included native English support as well.

I'll give it a swing when I get home in about half an hour and report back.

Usually, the Chinese OS's are seperate from the Multilanguage OS that includes English.

The Chinese fonts in this firmware is much better or more readable than AT&T's initial 8820 firmware. BTW, Singtel also releases its own (same version) firmware for 8820.

The only thing I've noticed so far is that I get a message pops up before sending an email saying "Spell check is finished. Do you want to send this email?" or something like that.

Question. I've heard os 4.2.2 has a different media player than 4.2.1. How is it different, and is it possible to install it on the 8800 yet?...
Thanks.

Already a thread on it: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...highlight=8820

Anyone install it yet? I can't until I'm back at my work computer on Monday morning. Don't want to hassle anyone for a wireless activation password over the holiday weekend.

Got it installed now. Had to re-install BBWeather. The only other issue I have had has been with Nav4All. Had to re-install it a couple of times to get it to work. Seems ok now.
