Default Picture messages w/ 8830 (Verizon) - 11-06-2007, 07:12 PM

I have an 8830 with Verizon and whenever I receive a picture message, I get a text message that directs me to retrieve my picture message at www.vzwpix.com. Is there a way to receive the actual picture message without having to be diverted to login another site? I remember with the Pearl I was able to receive the messages directly... is this done because the 8830 doesn't have a camera or is it a Verizon thing?

Bingo on both accounts. VZW's practice is... "No camera, no MMS."

Nope, it's a VZW/carrier thing. The phone has the neccessary OS files to support MMS.

VZW just doesn't push the MMS service book to the phone.

That's too bad... it would make life so much easier to have MMS directed to the phone. Is this something that can be changed in the future?

Anyone else had success with this? I would love to enable MMS.

I'll call on my lunch hour and post if I have any success. I am so sick and tired of vzwpix.

I just called and got a response from a tech support rep that said the BlackBerry is a business device and for "serious" users (she emphasized that) therefore the MMS is not activated on it... and if I wanted MMS then I should get a Treo or a Motorola Q. Also she was saying how my texting plan could only receive text messages, which is bull because I have the unlimited IN PIX and TXT messages. I didn't get what she was talking about and just left it at that since she kept repeating the same things.

No luck for me either. The lady I got ahold of says apparently there is no way to provision us for this. Even though I know that's false, but I'm assuming it would force a provision for everyone.

Although I'm sure a BES IT policy could remove the provisioning she stated it was because business customers don't like the MMS.

Honestly at this point, class action suits are a daily thing for verizon wireless. And obviously they do little to no good... I will live with my 8830 and it's no mms, shitty ringer volume, and no gps until I can get a pearl.

Another one bites the dust, hey hey! Another one bites the dust!

Honestly, do you think the Pearl is any better? You may get MMS, but still no real GPS. Personally I'm waiting until the 8330 comes out with disabled wifi. That should rock the house.
