Default scratched screen question - 11-07-2007, 01:11 PM

I got my 8830 with verizon about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, upon waking up this morning I noticed a tiny scratch the width of a hair and about half an inch long. is there a product I can use to fix the scratch or since its still within the first 30 days of my contract can I get a new one? Thanks in advance!

I don't know if something like this would work - Applesauce Polish for iPods | invisibleSHIELD, has anyone tried?

I doubt you'll be able to get a new one because it's scratched. Here's what I've used:

Displex LCD Scratch Remover

There is a FAQ on disasembly that provides a link to get a new one, for fairly cheap.

If the scratch is deep the Displex is not abrasive enough. I used an automotive cleaner polish to get the scratch out and then the displex to shine it back up. Watch out for the painted surfaces. A little electrical tape over the painted surfaces will protect them.

there is no way you are going to get a replacement if you damaged the device cosmetically. not unless you can find something wrong with the OS or hardware, such as phone kept rebooting or keypad doesnt work, then maybe they will swap out another for you. but i would assume they will have you go through the lengthy reload handheld software before taking it back.

i dont know if this helps, but i've heard using tooth paste, never tried it though.

I tried that on mine and it didn't make a difference.

You will need something more abrasive to remove a good scratch from the screen. Crest toothpaste will do it but you will need to use something else to shine it up afterwards. The displex works for that.

You didn't scratch the LCD correct? Just the cover that sits on top? If so, you can buy replacement parts (I saw the thread in this very forum). It seems a lot of 8830 users like to buy the black casing or if you like the OEM silver you can get that part for pretty cheap (I think I remember $15 or so). If you scratched the LCD screen (I don't know how you did that without disassembling it) you can get a new screen like the poster above said.
