Smile 8830 and Outlook email; who rules? - 11-09-2007, 09:44 AM

Hi everyone;

Newbie question, although I have had several BB's in my life, just got the awesum 8830..

If you have Outlook running on your desktop, will it "Steal" your incoming emails BEFORE the BB has a chance to get them, or does it still allow the BB to get them?

Als, can you change the frequency that the BB checks for Email? The guy from Spring said NO, but he sounded like it was his first day on the job..

Thanks to all!

The BB will still get them. If you're running BIS, it could take up to 15 minutes to get the emails on your BB. If you have BES, it will push the emails to your BB instantly. You can also use Redirector that runs on your PC and when you have a new email, it will push it to your BB. Either way, you will get an email in BOTH locations.

You must be on BIS like me - where you have your Outlook is getting emails from your ISP, and you also configured your 8830 to get email from the ISP as well. If this is the case, then the reason they are not getting to the Blackberry is because by default, Outlook deletes the email from the mail server after it reads them. I am also assuming you are using POP3 for email access.

What I did (from my comcast email account), was to configure Comcast to forward A COPY of the email to the 8830. Then the 8830 will always get the email as well. Not all ISPs have this option though.

Or you could configure your Outlook leave a copy of the message on the server. The problem with that is after a while you will accumulate tons of email on your server.

You can specify in Outlook the number of days to leave the mail on the server. That will solve the "tons of mail" problem.

That's a great idea. I think I'm going to change that setting on one of my other email accounts that I have coming in - the minimum of 1 day should be all it takes.
