Default New VZW LG Voyager -- iPhone competition - 11-10-2007, 03:06 AM

Anyone seen the latest qwerty LG phone? Not on the market yet, but it looks like a definite iPhone competitor.

Verizon Wireless:

Very interesting. I know, not a Blackberry topic, so sue me. Get over it. My colleague's wife works for Verizon and he brought this phone in today to show it off....it was VERY impressive, and as an 8830 owner, I was somewhat jealous!

Emphasis on the "somewhat."

I watched the Review Video someone put up on this thinking I was going to like it, but it kinda sucked. The interface and support was a little lacking. I don't think it'll touch the iPhone, but then again, I don't think the iPhone is much, except really for it's screen layout capabilities and it's browser. I think if RIM would just bite the bullet and make a full HTML/RTF email suport with full HTML browsing without this WAP cutdown BS and build a bigger screen the BB can go a LONG way to putting the competition down.

Honestly, I don't think there's much support (from the smart consumer) for any smartphone that doesn't run either RIM's OS or Microsoft's. I say this because email support is very important to corporate buyers (that know anything) and both of these platforms support corporate email tie-in better then "IMAP/POP3 only" proprietery OS phones... much like the NEC one I saw earlier in the year.

As much as I dislike the iPhone..I think it's got the upper hand against the Voyager.

Really the stupid move on the iPhone side is Steve's bright idea of getting greedy by going from carrier to carrier and trying to squeeze the best deal on them buying from Apple. Unfortunatly by doing this he painted himself into the corner with a "exclusivity" lockout by AT&T. So, instead of just selling the phone direct and unlocked to the entire GSM world he made the stupid ass move of locking the radio down to AT&T. Dumbass... he should have done what Nokia is doing... it doesn't seem to hurt their bottom line selling direct. That's really where the market needs to go. This manufacturer selling to carrier thing is really the old business plan everyone had. Manufacturers should sell to the public and drive the industry enough to force the carriers out of the monopoly setups they have now.

Wasn't it rumored that Jobs went to Verizon Wireless offering them the exclusive sale of the iPhone within there authorized dealers and Apple stores. Verizon turned it down because they have alot of 3rd party dealers that wouldn't be permitted to sell the iPhone?

I owned a iPhone for 1 day, loved it ... But hated AT&T's service ... I think my Blackberry minus the web & html email is a much better device. I hope that RIM brings us a touch interface blackberry in the future with a full web browser and HTML email... I believe that it would easily slam dunk the iPhone.

All I want now is a full browser and BlackBerry would kill it..Not that they aren't already; but it would just make it that much better.

Opera Mini 4. It puts the RIM Browser to shame! I don't even use the RIM one anymore unless I need to OTA something and Opera just pulls it up for that one thing.
