Default Will 4.3 ever come for the 88xx series? - 11-20-2007, 07:22 AM

The title pretty much says it all. When I saw that the 4.3OS for the 8130s included google calendar sync abilities, I flipped out. I flipped out again when I realised I found this out a week after my 30-day swap window ended.

Do we have any hope of seeing this OS, RIM?

Why are you flipping out over a new OS?

Apparently the new OS supports a feature the OP really wants NJ. At least that's what I get from the post

I am in no rush to see a new OS

Probably. I mean they did release 4.2 for the 8700's. You're going to get the same answer anytime you ask "will RIM release X.X for my YYYY device?".

On the Blackberry Web Telecast last week, they explained the new service pack of BES (4.1.5 - available 02/08) is going to enable many new features available in OS 4.3. Thus saying that all 8100, 8300, 8700, 8800 will be compatible with the new features.

They did not outright say that OS 4.3 will be available, but with the info they provided it appears they would have to come out with it for the models mentioned above to enable the new features.

Some are saying by the end of the year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was early in 2008. When it's out, it'll be all the buzz here. Stay tuned.

4.3 on 8800 for sure? Currently there's not even a 4.2.2 update.

The OP asked about the 88xx series.... 4.2.2 has been released on handhelds in this series including the 8830.

Most likely the 8800 will never get 4.2.2 but will get 4.3.1 when that is finally released.

Again, that's not for the 8800. That's for the 8830.

For those of us stuck with BBs that have been on a BES, 4.3 finally offers a way to disable lingering IT policies.

You can remove the IT Policy manually from any device... OS 4.3 or earlier.
4.3 just makes it a little simpler.

That procedure isn't perfect, things like firewalls and keyoard injection aren't reset by that policy.bin.

I'm struggling with that now as certain apps like IM+ are having trouble with the firewall, which can't be disabled post-BES. In 4.3 you can apparently reset the device to its 100% original factory state.

Google Calendar Syncing function would be awesome! ... I am also patiently waiting for a 4.3 update for my 8830.
