You need the BlackBerry Data Plan to use any GPS mapping applications.
You should definitely get that if you want to have a good experience with your BlackBerry device.

Without the BlackBerry Data Plan, you're not going to get email, web browsing, PIN messaging, GPS, and other data features.
You'll just have a phone with text messaging.

Well if it didn't more-than-double the price of my phone bill I'd be somewhat inclined. It's $40/month for the phone and the data plan starts at $40 +$10 for GPS.


What a joke. It doesn't say under the GPS that you need the data plan, and when I talked to the lady she didn't mention me not having the data plan. WTFservice? This frusturates me hard.

What you call a joke, most people call normal.
The GPS hardware doesn't need a data plan... the GPS software does.
You need a data plan to download the maps from whatever GPS service you decide to use.

The BB Data Plan is only $29.99 from AT&T, and you don't *need* the $10 GPS option for telenav.
There are free GPS alternatives.

Maybe the BlackBerry isn't for you. It's not for everyone.

No, that's a full BIS BlackBerry Data Plan.
It's not just email.
You can do web browsing, maps, PIN, email, etc... with that plan.
