Default Cingular plan help? - 11-20-2007, 08:17 AM

I'm an idiot and I hate being on hold.

I just got an 8820, it'll be here Thursday. I have a basic plan with no data/Blackberry package(same thing basically?

Anyways, the only thing I added are more txt messages and the unlimited GPS. Am I going to be able to use this no problems?

Also, can I use the wi-fi? Is it going to charge me exta?

You need the BlackBerry Data Plan to use any GPS mapping applications.
You should definitely get that if you want to have a good experience with your BlackBerry device.

Without the BlackBerry Data Plan, you're not going to get email, web browsing, PIN messaging, GPS, and other data features.
You'll just have a phone with text messaging.

Well if it didn't more-than-double the price of my phone bill I'd be somewhat inclined. It's $40/month for the phone and the data plan starts at $40 +$10 for GPS.

What a joke. It doesn't say under the GPS that you need the data plan, and when I talked to the lady she didn't mention me not having the data plan. WTFservice? This frusturates me hard.

What you call a joke, most people call normal.
The GPS hardware doesn't need a data plan... the GPS software does.
You need a data plan to download the maps from whatever GPS service you decide to use.

The BB Data Plan is only $29.99 from AT&T, and you don't *need* the $10 GPS option for telenav.
There are free GPS alternatives.

Maybe the BlackBerry isn't for you. It's not for everyone.

Without data gps will work but you won't have the maps! You can get a BB data plan for 29.99 unless you need txt

I thought the cost was outragous when I first started with a BB now I don't think I can do without. It has become a necessary tool for work and personal life

Where do you see it for $30?

I see BB internet service plan for $30 but I think that's basically just email, yes?

In fact, that's the only thing I see for $29.99. I tried Missourri zip code and CT to see if they were maybe just gouging us Northerners.

No, that's a full BIS BlackBerry Data Plan.
It's not just email.
You can do web browsing, maps, PIN, email, etc... with that plan.

Seriously? This site is terrible then, honestly.

BlackBerry® Internet Service Plan

Summary:
Retrieve e-mail from up to 10 ISP accounts with a BlackBerry® Wireless Handheld. Send, receive, forward and reply to messages while on the go! Service is not available at all times in all places. View Map and Coverage Limitations. Does not include connectivity to a corporate BlackBerry® Enterprise Server.

That said absolutely nothing about anything but e-mail.

Details:

BlackBerry® Internet Service has now been upgraded to version 2.0 which provides customers with the ability to have their personal email pushed automatically to the BlackBerry® from most popular Internet Service Provider (ISP) accounts. The solution provides automatic wireless synchronization of read, deleted and sent from the user's BlackBerry® handset to their account.

Users with multiple accounts can choose from multiple "sent from" addresses when sending an email. Customers can also browse the Web wirelessly via AT&T's popular MEdia™ Net wireless Internet access service or use the BlackBerry® Browser¿ for HTML Internet browsing.

Simple to set-up and use
Includes an optional email account: [email address]
Aggregate up to 10 email accounts, including AOL®, MSN®, Hotmail®, or POP3/Internet Service Providers (ISP)
Store unlimited data (with a 30 day auto-aging)
128-bit SSL encryption
Also consider the new BlackBerry® Personal Plan from AT&T offers customers direct and easy access to their Internet accounts. The plan is designed solely for use with the newly enhanced BlackBerry® Internet Service¿ (note: this plan excludes access to BlackBerry® Enterprise Server). The solution is ideal for on-the-go consumers such as young professionals who need to stay in touch and parents who spend their days juggling work and family activities and can use email as one way to help keep themselves connected.

Oh there it is. Last sentence of paragraph two of the second tab after actually clicking on the details link. lawl.

Okay. Well, seeing as how I need text, I think I might just add the $40 plan which includes boatloads of texts.

Would the Wi-Fi have worked without the data plan?

Yes I believe WiFi would work without data plan

This what you SHOULD have read before ordering your Blackberry!

"Boatloads of texts" ??

Have you checked out T-Mo and the SideKick?
