Default reading word documents on an 8800 - 11-22-2007, 04:32 AM

i have a few word docs which i can view as attachments to emails from my 8800, but would like to delete the emails and keep the docs in a file on the memory card and read them before meetings etc. can this be done?

i tried saving a word doc onto the memory card, in it's own file called "Documents", but the 8800 wouldn't let me access it or read it. d'oh.

You can't do this with the native blackberry software, as far as I know. I'm aware of third party applications that may help you, but I don't know enought to offer any advice.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.1)

Take a look at beamberry. You can now save some files. Google Docs is also around but has limitations.

I am really amazed that RIM hasn't provided some kind of software for Office documents...it is often the reason people choose devices other than BlackBerries. Why not just provide something like Documents-to-Go or Office Mobile?

quite. the reading of word docs on the go, and being able to archive emails and see old ones from folders is a big part of my mobile life. i have been dissapointed with RIM for not including these features.

I was schooled on major corp BES so now I'm out on my own, "only" using BIS it all seems like a much cheaper version. Still addicted to the bloody thing, however!

I believe the new 4.3 handheld OS will have built in support for editing documents.
