Default Unlocked AT&T 8820 and operating system choices - 11-23-2007, 12:45 PM

I'm currently using an unlocked AT&T 8820 on Rogers, a carrier which does not support the 8820, so I was wondering:
  • Since my provider doesn't support my phone, shouldn't I be able to use any 8820 OS on it?
  • If that's the case, is there a "best" OS for the 8820? The AT&T one I'm using now doesn't include any GPS applications, for example.
Any advice would be helpful, thanks much!

Here's information on the latest 8820 OS. You can use ANY 8820 OS on ANY 8820 regardless of carrier.

To get BBMaps to show up you'll need this:

It's easy to do when you're upgrading software.

You can also use Google Maps

Just download BB Maps to the device from the BB website - it's just an application. It works just fine... Rogers doesn't block it, AT&T does.

What's wrong with the stock 8820 OS?

You can download the BBMaps app but you may not get the newest version for your device unless you install from the OS package. However, both methods will work.

Each newer OS usually has enhancements and/or bug fixes that improve the device (not always, though.)
