I kind of confused to as why this update is not released in the US. Why is it released only for Singapore Telecom users?

Are you looking for Chinese support for this OS version? If so, you can use this OS. There are instructions at the top of the forum on how to use an OS from a different carrier.

No. I'm in the states, and I have a US Blackberry.

I don't feel safe about this update because this update is not found anywhere on the US Blackberry's corporate website.

Plus the update says clearly its for the Blackberry 8820 users under the Singapore Telecom.....which isn't my carrier.

Realize that BBF is inhabited by all manner and sort of users. Some are neophytes who want to use their BlackBerries well, while some are geeks who want to push any and all limits of the hardware.

I count myself in the latter category, and have no problem upgrading to the latest and greatest of firmwares. I know you can always back down, and am comfortable troubleshooting just about any possible failure. Some people aren't, and they should probably stick with their carrier's tested and approved firmware.

foxhound, there is nothing wrong with using this update. It is RIM certified as an OS and there is nothing be afraid of.

OS's are released by carriers for their devices but that doesn't mean that the OS's are "branded" to carriers (other than in the vendor.xml.) It's likely that your carrier has this exact same OS in their test beds but just haven't released it yet. With every official release from a carrier they have to train their employees for support, print material, test for any bugs on their particular system, etc., etc.

Again, OS's are developed for RIM for ANY particular device, regardless of carrier branding.

Is there any documentation about what was improved, fixed or added by the new OS? I'd like to decide whether its worth the effort first.

Don't worry, I'm not up for downloading betas... it seems even the official 4.5s are still betas...

That's a BIG 10-4! Nothing that reliable and bug free has even been released yet (beta or official.)
