Default 8820 vs. 8310 - 11-25-2007, 12:35 PM

If this is in the wrong place, I apologize in advance.

I currently have a BB 8300 which I do love. I can get an 8310 for $100 through ATT or an 8820 for $199. I am thinking about the 8310 for the GPS (could be cool to play with) but am thinking about the 8820 for the GPS and WiFi.

I'm not too concerned with the $$ involved but am just not sure which phone is "better" per se. Are there any reaqsons to go with one vs. the other? Like any drawbacks to the 8820?

If I sound llike a complete noob, sorry.

Any help appreciated.

The 8820 is wider and taller than the Curve, which might make a difference for you. I prefer the smaller 8300 series, as I do pocket carry mostly.

I just picked up an 8310 to replace my Pearl, as I wanted full qwerty. Not much to dislike that I can find.

The GPS is, at a minimum "fun", and for some folks could be really useful. It works nicely with google maps, for example, as you hit a button (zero on the keyboard) and a flashing blue dot appears to show your location.

cheers

The 8820 doesn't have a camera. The GPS in both the 8820 & the 8310 are pretty similar. The WiFi can be nice in the 8820. I use it a lot here at home to speed up downloads and such. On T-Mobile, they have an 8320 that has Camera & WiFi.

The bottom line is no device has Camera, GPS, & WiFi all in one using. Choose the unit that gives you the two you would use the most.

I have both the 8820 and 8310. The 8820 is a great during the work week phone for me and the 8310 is small enough to pocket and take on the weekends and when I am heading out. I dumped the Pearl after a few days it was too small and too much effort to type with. I also get full GPS on both of my BB's now.

I found myself in the same dilemma at the att store. I made a couple trips to handle the two models, and try the keyboards. I have never found a camera on my phones to be very desirable once I was used to having it.

I was more attracted to the appearance of the 8820. The keyboard on the 8310 allowed for fast typing, But the keys clicked too much in comparison. The spacing of keys was nice, but the 8820 keyboard felt good too, and you get used to either in short order. The 8820 is a little wider, but feels solid, and is the thinest BB.

I think two reasons I had so much trouble deciding between the two was the 8310 was offered at a great price, and other forum postings have said such good things about it.

So, I bought the 8820. Solid feeling, nice appearance, hot swappable micro SD card, bigger battery, and fast wifi for browsing if desired. When you hold them side by side, and one over the other, the size difference seems practically irrelevant.

I keep questioning my decision, as is natural I think, for the first 30 days, but I haven't considered going in a exchanging it. Part of the trouble for me is, many who write in the forums seem mostly to have chosen Curves over the 8800 series. It's easy to think it's the only way to go. The camera appeals to many. Not me, and I'm a photographer.

i got a 8820, because the amount of dust in my 8310 was unbearable.

the 8310 has a better external speaker and a better vibrate. it does feel a lot smaller in the hand compared to my 8820.

i do prefer the build quality on the 8820 also. the wifi is a little bit of a bonus for me. but practically useless out of the home, as our wifi coverage is australia is pretty appalling
