Default Sprint 8830 Using phone as modem with Bluetooth help - 12-06-2007, 01:44 PM

I recently purchased a Sprint Blackberry 8830 and am new to the blackberry's and smartphones in general. I also have a new dell Laptop with built in bluetooth. My question is can someone walk me through or point me in the right direction in setting up my Blackberry so I can connect to the internet with it using bluetooth so I no longer have to use the USB cable. I have the two devices syncd...I think and I can connect just fine when the phone is tethered, but when if the cable isnt plugged in, it doesnt see my blackberry.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Tethering via Bluetooth kills battery life.

I need help with this too. No one else out there doing this? That shocking...

I have a PB G4, though, but should be the same, since i have already paired my 8830 to the laptop. All I need info about the # the modem is suppose to dial.

Thank you!

I can't help with the bluetooth specific part, but the phone number to dial, since you're with sprint (any CDMA carrier for that matter), is #777.

I haven't seen any good reason to load up this software. If you've installed the BB desktop manager, you get the modem drivers.

Why would someone want to install the sprint sw too?

No need to install any software if only using via BT.

1. Pair the BlackBerry with the computer.
2. Create a dial-up connection with the New Connection Wizard using the Bluetooth attached modem.
3. ISP name can be anything, telephone number is #777, no user name or password required.
4. Open the dial-up connection, click properties, within the "Connect using:" box select the BT modem, then configure button. Change the Maximum speed to 921600.
