Default email authentication issue - 12-07-2007, 09:25 AM

BB8830, Sprint, BIS.

Our email domain host (Charter) recently began required authentication from our Outlook Express accounts in order for our office staff to be able to send emails. If I understand correctly, this means the Charter server checks our email id and password prior to accepting the email message we're sending to be sure it's coming from a legitimate account / user and not from a spam source.

Since that change, I can no longer send myself or anyone else in my office an email from my blackberry. I can send email to anybody else with no problems.

When I send myself an email, I get a message that says the email is undeliverable, authentication is required to send email as [email address].

I've talked to both Sprint and Charter tech support and, of course, they're pointing at each other and neither can offer me a solution.

Thanks,

I believe that is an option you can change on the setup for BIS at Sprint. My outgoing server requires authentication, and I suspect (working from memory) that I did it there. Log on to the Sprint site and edit your account.

Thanks for your post.

I have thoroughly gone through the Sprint BIS site where I maintain my account and have also asked the Sprint tech service phone support about it. I can't find anything on the BIS site that deals with authentication and the phone support tells me they don't have any authentication check option.
