My account was finally migrated to Ensemble and after speaking with a CS rep, I confirmed I can add the $30 BB plan to my SERO account. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on trading my 700WX for an 8830, but a cursory review of BB's website shows the warranty is non-transferable. The guys phone is ~6 months old, so it's got 6 months left of warranty that will be lost. I don't currently have insurance on the phone, and I'd rather not get it, however, can anyone chime in on how much of a risk it is having an 8830 out of warranty? Are they prone to failure, etc? I suppose I could take the insurance if I have to, but that's another $7/month that I'd rather not give to Sprint. Thoughts?

My thought is that if the seller is a trusted person and you know there are NO known issues with the device, do it. Other than pure breaking the LCD, crushing the BB, or water/liquid damage, most any failure of the BB can be fixed with a clean OS reload. I don't know of any inherent 8830 hardware problems you should be wary of. Keeping a screen protector (from scratches) on it, along with a skin and keeping it holstered will protect it from damage.

It's all about finding a seller that has a great reputation IMO ... I have never had any troubles either, except for one Motorola Q that I bought once, the seller only had a feedback score of 3 ... I should have known better, the phone worked fine, it was just beat up a bit more than described.

You can only add insurance at the original time of purchase. Someone might tell you different. Even if Sprint says that they can add it on, I promise you, if and when you try to make a claim, the insurance company will deny.

The purpose of this is to prevent you from adding insurance AFTER you lose or break the device.

actually I would prefer to only add insurance after I already wreck my car or burn down my house too! I do understand why the phone company would be against it however!
