Same thing happened to me, right after the new desktop software upgrade! I reinstalled the desktop software 3 times, till it finally worked. I haven't had that issue happen again...Knock on Wood! Maybe you could call Rim support. Good luck!

Had the same error message, unable to run the media manager program within Desktop Manager. The answer that I have found is to install 4.2.2 instead of version 3. Could not find any other solutions on the internet at all! Good luck.

Default This is the solution - 05-08-2008, 03:55 PM

FOUND THE SOLUTION! I just spend two hours on the phone with T-Mobile and blackberry support. This is how you fix it.

I removed the entire Roxio folder but you can just do the manager folder...

1. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications. if the device manager is set to open on startup disable it. (right click on the BB device Manager next to the clock and uncheck the box at the bottom.) Restart your computer.

2. DO NOT OPEN THE DEVICE MANAGER.

3. Open 'my computer'

4. Double click on the 'C:' drive and browse to 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio' where 'USERNAME' is the name of the user you are currently logged in as. (if you don’t see the folder it is either hidden or you are using redirects) you can look up how to unhide files and folders someplace else. And your sys admin will know where the redirects are going if you are on a business network.

5. Right click on the 'MediaManager' folder and choose rename

6. Call the folder 'MediaManager.old'

7. Now try launching the Media Manager

worked perfectly for me.

Default Solution! - 08-07-2008, 07:29 AM

I found a solution has worked for me.

I ran the install (450_b016_english.exe) and followed the prompts to modify the installation (I planned on removing Roxio/MM9 component). But before I did that, I ticked to install the 'certificate synchronisation' feature (something to do with copyright/private keys stuff I think) just to see what would happen. It went through the install, restarted the PC, and hey presto! all working. It did ask for a password to be set presumably for the cert synch thing to work.

I didn't really like that apect so then I decided to rerun the install and untick/remove the certificate thing (and I was curious to see if I would be back to MM9 errors), followed the prompts, restarted the PC and hey presto! still working.

This suggests that in my case MM9 couldn't work because of an essential but missing setting, component, registry change, or such like but that is not reversed when Certs are uninstalled.

BTW - I had to use the full OEM installation file because the option from within installed programs in the control panel required the temporary .msi file that is created during installation and is cleaned out once completed.

FYI - Using BB DTM 4.5 / BB 8120 / Vista Biz PC (fully patched).
