Default Unknown Icon on 8830-Verizon - 02-23-2008, 09:01 AM

I've checked the owner's manual, but can not find this icon. It started earlier in the week, when I traveled to a different state. Upon arriving home, it's still there. It looks like a person with (2) red parentheses next to it. I thought maybe it was something to do with roaming, but it hasn't gone away. It appears between the "AM" and "SAT" display as I look at it right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried popping the battery out and in to see if the icon remains?

Wirelessly posted (8800: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8310/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

If the "person" is a smiley face, it is likely BlackBerry Messenger. Are the parentheses actually asterisks?

I don't have any new voicemails, just (1) saved voicemail. Yes, I removed the battery, waited (5) minutes and powered up. It's still there. No, it's not a smiley face. It looks more like a person (similar to what you see with Messenger) and (2) RED closed-parenthesis to the right of it.

What theme are you using. Each theme has a different set of icons.

It the standard "Verizon" theme. While checking to get this answer, I noticed this icon looks very similar to the desktop icon for voice dialing. My mystery small icon looks like the voice dialing desktop icon, except the little one only has (2) brackets, not (3).

Anyone? Is this really related to to the voice functions or possibly something else?

Could it relate to a thirty party app you may have?

Nothing has been installed. Like I said, it wasn't there before and showed up after powering the BB back on after taking a trip out of state. That's when it appeared and I haven't been able to get rid of it.

On my Verizon 8830, that's the voicemail icon/counter. I'd either 1) try leaving yourself a dummy voicemail to re-set the count (when it sends that text notification), or 2) try deleting that saved voicemail if you can.

Exactly. It would have helped if the original poster had mentioned it's the mini icon at the top of the screen, as opposed to one of the larger "main" icons related to the theme.

It indicates you have a voicemail. To get rid of it, play the voicemail and either save it by entering "9" or delete it by entering "7". If you do not listen to the voicemail, the icon will remain.
