Default HELP! IE not on my berry. Verizon won't refund. - 02-24-2008, 03:20 PM

I bought the 8830 yesterday at a Verizon store. Once home I found that internet explorer was not installed on my blackberry. I contacted Verizon and they say there is nothing they can do. They won't replace or repair or refund because I bought it from what was apparently a '3rd party verizon store'. That store is claiming I must have caused the problem and will not replace, repair or refund.

Anybody else run into this??? What should I do??

There is no IE for the BlackBerry. There is a BlackBerry Browser, or the Opera Mini 3rd party browser.

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan.
Without a BlackBerry Data Plan, you will not see a browser.

Do you have the BlackBerry Data Plan? Without that, you will never get the BB browser on the BB.

And you will NEVER get Internet Eplorer on the BB... doesn't exist for the BB.

IE doesnt run on the device at all. Are you referring to the internet browser? if so, try doing a battery pull. if that doesnt work go to options > advanced > host routing table > menu > register now. welcome to the forums

And, just for your other problem, Verizon has no reason to replace or refund a BB for which you did not purchase from them.

If you feel you must return it, take it to the place you bought it from.

I guess it all depends on what a "3rd party verizon store" is.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a data plan. Have had it for a year. I upgraded my phone yesterday due to the untimely demise of my old blackberry. Whatever browser the blackberry uses-- it's not on there.
Verizon will not help me and I'm frustrated as to what to do.

I was out of town when my original blackberry went down. So I bought from a Verizon store 2 hours away from my home. I did not know it was a 3rd party dealer. They do not sell phone or service plans for anybody but Verizon and it was the only Verizon store in the area. It wasn't Best Buy or something like that-- it was a Verizon store. I'm not sure why it's considered 3rd party, but that is what Verizon claims. Over the phone, the store I bought it from pretty much says 'tough'.

Did you ask them to resend the service books? If you have a BB Dataplan I am sure that will most likely resolve it.

did you change your device on the BIS site? BlackBerry Internet Service from there, use change device, put in your PIN/ESN then you can resend service books.

Now that we know you have a "different' device, on Verizon, when you change BBs, do you need to go to their BIS webiste and change device on his BIS account?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Mmmmmm popcorn!

Did OP ever resolve the browser problem?

He likely purchased the BB at an indirect that sells exclusively VZW therefore the equipment if needing replacement within first 30 days must go back to original place of purchase as it is there inventory and not VZWs

I think that depite the phone thing the service has 30 day trial run for the network.

If that did not work I would go back to the store, tell them it is not what you were promissed and DEMAND they fix the issue. If not just tell them you will be in touch with the BB, the state attorney general and your attorney. They performed a form of theft by deception by selling you an item that they said had certain features and it did not.

sorry I love a good fight more than anything else...thats the Serbian in me....

A common complaint of Verizon users
