Default A week of messages in my inbox--suddenly gone?? - 02-24-2008, 03:30 PM

Hi all-

I have a 8830. It's been working like a charm ever since I got it, 3 weeks ago.

When I went to bed last night, I had one unread message. This morning, I had none. Figuring it was a glitch, I went to find the message, as I knew I received it this Thursday. As I scrolled down the inbox listings, I noticed that Feb 15th-Feb22nd were GONE. No messages at all, no SMS, BB messenger, etc.

I have my mail options set to keep mail forever.

Any thoughts? No search or email filter is on either.

Thanks so much,

-split

Yep, its a memory issue. Review the thread Sith posted. There should be a link there for Optimizing your BB's memory. If not, its in my signature. Good luck and Welcome!

You should have 11 times that as a minimum. Follow those threads exactly and you should be fine.

Do a battery pull and see what it jumps to.... it might keep you going long enough to not lose anything else while you follow the thread steps!

you guys rock!

I was *going* to ask my IT admin at work, but...he wouldn't have known/cared, and it would have gone nowhere.

Instead, I get serious expertise in 1 minute!

One last question-after I go through all the memory tweaks, will my "lost" emails come back??

Thanks again,

He said "Serious expertise" He doesn't know us very well!! ha! ha!

Well on a more serious note, you emails are gone but you won't lose any in the future.

Good Luck!

uggh-

possible issue: I went through the short list (keep emails 60 days, calendar items, etc) and did all of that.

However, when I went to the long term memory optimization thread, I noticed there was a lot to do with the Desktop Manager.

I'm on a Mac.

And from the little experience I'd had with pocket berry....or pocket mac, or whatever the mac app is called.....it's not good. Very flaky.

For instance, I installed pacman the first day i got the BB, and I still can't delete it using the software(which is what i used to install it).

So, being a mac user..an thoughts?

After doing the "quick" fixes, my free memory is:

10516344

10 is better than 1! Not much you can do without DM. Find a friend with a PC.

ok, so you think I'm safe with the memory showing now?

I guess that means I shouldn't install any more apps/themes, eh?

on that note, is there somewhere where i can check how much memory each app is taking up?

Thanks for everything, guys.

Yes, go to Options >Status then hit menu and select Database sizes.

10 is still relatively low but better than 1.

Do you have many apps installed, themes, pictures on the device (should all be on the memory card), ringtones, music, lots of MMS or Emails with attachments downloaded, etc? All of those will affect your free space.

I have about 8 apps-can I move them to my 4gb card?

no, apps stay resident in device memory, the blackberry doesnt support installing applications onto the media card, or running them from the media card
