Default Trackball instead of a trackwheel? - 03-26-2008, 06:21 AM

Hi,

I still own a Bb 8700g with a trackwheel at the side and I feel comfortable with it. Now I think about buying a Bb 8820 where the trackwheel at the side is replaced by a trackball below the screen. I have never seen one of these new phones in real life but I think that the trackwheel at the side is a real loss because when I am not writing a text I am able to handlethe device and navigate through all the menus by holding the Bb with one hand and rolling and pressing the wheel with my thumb without clenching or cramping.
What do you guys think who transfered from an older bb (like the 7xxx or 87xx series) to one of the 8800 series? Do you miss the trackwheel or is the trackball a full and sufficient replacement?

I have both BBs: track wheel on the side, and the trackball. I find the 8800 trackball faster in navigating the menus.

But the trackwheel is also cool.

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

Give it one day and you'll not miss the trackwheel.
I went from 7100 , 8700 to 8800. Love it.

It took me about 12 seconds to get used to the trackball on the 8830. I can't imagine anything else now. Make the jump. You will like it.

Thanks for your answers guys but this was not exactly the point!
Are you able to use a Bb 88xx for at least 10 minutes with one hand without clenching?

10 minutes hah! More like all day! The BB lays in your hand don't really have to grip it!

Have no worries!!! I was very skeptical at first now I can't imagine not having the trackball!

Left hand, right hand, switch back and forth. The trackball is laid out far better than the trackwheel for one handed use IMHO. Ergonomically, it's better for your thumb. It's a more natural position.

Many of us were not happy when the ball replaced the wheel. I still miss have some kind of tactile feedback. They both get the job done, the ball will just take a little while to grow on you!
