Default Inserts a "1" when dialing a phone number - 03-27-2008, 08:05 PM

When I try to dial a number stored in my address book a "1" is automatically added prefacing the number...for example... if the stored number is 216-555-1234 it actually dials 1-216-555-1234. I need it to dial the number exactly how it is stored.

Any ideas on how to turn that off?

In the Phone application, click the BlackBerry button and choose Options. Click on Smart Dialing and change the entry for "Use '1' for National Dialing" to "No".

The carriers ignore the "1" if it's not required, so why not just leave it in there?

The 8830 is being used in Australia now and the 1 apparently causing a problem when dialing down there. This is the owner of my company that is having the problem. I am not there myself to see what it is actually doing but that is the issue he is reporting.

Thanks for the responses!

I has this problem as well. I don't have a "use 1" option on my phone, but I do have a "national number length" dropdown which was previously set to 11. I changed it to 10 and it took out the annoying 1. Hope that heps.
