Default Confused - 03-27-2008, 09:09 PM

I might get a Blackberry 8830. The programs that I want to load into the phone, need a pocket pc. Is a Blackberry a pocket pc? Is a pocket pc something that is Windows Mobile?

If it needs WM, is there anything I can load into the Blackberry that will make it compatible?

Thank You!

Welcome to BlackBerry Forums!

The BlackBerry is a BlackBerry
It is not a Pocket PC
It is not a Windows Mobile device

You can not run PPC or WM programs on a BlackBerry

Do not get the 8830 if you need Windows Mobile/PPC programs.

Wirelessly posted (At&t curve)

What programs do you need? There may be blackberry compatible alternatives.

Pocket PCs are the predecessors to Windows Mobile devices. All Pocket PCs are Windows based.

This is true. The BB software I have used so far has been great, better than any PDA/PPC device I've had previously. You can do a length of tasks with the right Blackberry, being limited to a Windows device is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

They are programs that I need for my business. One allows me to see what my stores have in sales for the night and the other is an inspection program. Not general programs but made for the business I own. They say they need a pocket pc.

I see there is a suite that allows a WM device to run Blackberry applications. Any plans on allowing a Blackberrry to run WM applications?

Thanks again!

what applications are you looking to run? everything that WinMo does can be done on a BB, and with a great deal more stability i might add.

Nope. One of the great things about a BlackBerry is it is not prone to the stability problems of WM devices. Why write an emulator to bring those problems onto a great platform.

You need a Windows Mobile device to run specific applications that are for a Pocket PC.

What application are you trying to run?
