Default 8830 Upgradeable to 9000's OS?? - 03-28-2008, 12:43 PM

Hello all,

I was just wondering if the 8830 will be upgradeable to handle the new OS shown running on the 9000?

Here are pics and a video of the new BB OS coming out with the 9000.

since we have no idea what OS that is in particular, and it is likely a beta OS (since the phone isnt even out yet) there is no way to answer this question. same with the theme. welcome to the forums.

8830 is primarily a CDMA phone on the Sprint network. 9000 will probably be released as a GSM... so with that scenario, the answer is no.

And Welcome to BBF as well.

Anything is possible, however not very likely ... I agree with the statements above, this could likely be a Beta OS. Or a very cool theme on the rumored 4.5 OS ... I personally love that theme.

Generally, you can only load an OS made specifically for your device - i.e. you can't load an 8130 OS on an 8830 or an 8800 on an 8810/20/30, etc. I will assume that RIM will follow the same practice with the 9000 series. They may or may not release a similar OS for older phones. Only time will tell.
