Default 8830 Picture questions - 03-28-2008, 04:38 PM

Is it true that people can not just send you a text picture? I thought I heard somewhere that receiving photo's and media is different? If this is correct can someone let me what the process is? I'm thinking about leaving my pearl and going to the 8830. Loosing the Camera is not huge for me, but I do receive quite a lot of pictures from family and friends thru my phone. Any information would be great. Thank you all in advance. Michael

With Verizon since the 8830 doesn't have a camera on it, it isn't considered a camera phone (obv) and since it isn't a camera phone, it cannot receive picture texts (dumb i know!). Tell whoever wants to send you photos they can do so via email (i know its inconvinent).

Sidenote: That doesn't make sense to me (its clearly a Verizon thing) b/c I am coming from a 7250 on Sprint's network and everyone knows that phone didn't have a camera on it and I was able to recieve photo texts all the time.

"Is this about my muscular thick thighs?" 7250 > Treo 650> 8830

In the sense of getting a MMS you are correct. On verizon they don't consider the phone as a camera phone so they don't allow you to receive pictures directly.

With that said you do still get pictures sent to your mobile number via their web app. What you will get is an sms with a link to your web account and you can view it there and save it to your phone. For the record verizon isn't the only company that does it I had a Sprint HTC Mogul (biggest pos I've owned) and even though it does have a camera the os on it didn't support mms and I had to do the same thing

I just have my browser bookmarked with my UN and password saved. Yeah its a work around but oh well

It's the same on Alltel, can't receive a picture in SMS text msg if you don't have a camera phone.

I'm sorry if I'm a boob, but I just want to make sure I understand this. If someone tried to send me a photo text message, does this link come attached to the text? Or do they have to send an email to the verizon web address?

Just like Total said, they can send you one, but all you'll get is a txt message from VZN saying that someone sent you an MMS and that you have to log on to your account.

Once you navigate via your web browser you'll be able to see it

Current - 8830
Formerly -8100 / 8700 / 7290 / 7100g / 7510 / 7230 / 6710 /. .

I know this topic has been beaten to death but I have an 8830 and I've never been able to receive an MMS. I even if someone sends me a message who's on Verizon, it just goes into some black hole. I don't get a notification or anything, I just get nothing. Did any of you have to change a setting on the phone or contact Verizon to enable this?

Thanks

I've been set up in vzwpix for years and used it with my old 7750 and VX6700. Even when someone asks me if I received something they sent to me, I check and its not there.
