Default My 8820 has a mind of its own - 03-30-2008, 01:06 AM

HELP PLEASE!

My 8820 has gone wacko jacko on me. It seems to have a mind of its own.

Problems mainly consist of the phone thinking I'm pressing a menu/trackball fuction and cycling through when I'm not pressing a thing

-The menu will randomly light up when I dont touch the phone
-Everytime I call someone it thinks I'm pressing the menu button when I'm not so it goes into mute in mid convo
-Cant open up my text msgs or email cause it will cycle through all the menus randomly replying or copying a draft and of course I'm not pressing a thing.

What options do I have? Please and thanks!

Sounds like there is moisture in the keypad. Did you get the device wet or did it get any kind of moisture from somewhere? In a steamy bathroom? On a plane from cold dry air to moist warm air?

Have you done a battery pull?

The moisutre is a possibility...am I screwed? Its not like I jumped in a pool or anything, rain may have sneaked its way through the keys maybe...

I did a battery pull while the phone was both On and Off and still the same.

Remove the battery and let the device sit somewhere warm, like in a stereo cabinet or something. Give it a few days in that warm spot and try it again.

JC is right, it is probably the moisture. While your letting it sit in that warm place, you might also say a prayer or two

It'll be fine, most likely. When moisture gets in the keyboard it will make the keys make contact, just as if you were pushing on them. Once the keyboard dries out it will probably be just fine. You can also put it in a bag of uncooked rice.
