Default international roaming - 04-03-2008, 10:03 PM

I am on a 8830, service provider is Telus. I am in Panama (country) and cannot get international roaming, send/receive data. Telus now tells me they do not have access/agreements to/for towers for coverage here. Is there anyway to download or connect to a temporary service provider, international raoming etc... for short term use? Help please and thanks!

just purchase a local SIM card. although you will not have your current number you should be able to get a SIM with data.

I believe the telus 8830 is unlocked out of the box. and technically you would using a local SIM, so it wouldnt international per se.

pardon my ignorance - but what do you mean by "unlocked out of the box"?

it has a GSM portion that allows you to use a SIM card from another country in it. you do not need to get unlocked by your carrier or another source so that you can use any SIM. Certain carrier, like VZW, allow you to only use their SIM cards out of the box when traveling overseas. You need to contact them, or another third party to get a code to remove this limitation.
