Default Charging problem - 04-07-2008, 04:42 AM

Hi,

I have this strange problem with my BlackBerry 8800. When it's battery is getting too low for radio use I cannot charge the battery using the USB cable, because it's not powered says the BB.
When I connect the BB to a powered charger the charge indicator on the screen appears for a second and nothing happens. I'm not using the official BB charger but just another camera charger. They all should work isn't it?
I hope somebody has a solution.

Cheers,

Aart

Welcome to the BBF.

You need to load BlackBerry Desktop Manager to your PC for the USB cable to work as a charger. The drivers are needed to power the USB port enough to make it work as a charger.

The other charger for you camera should work, yes, but I have found some that won't either.

I have two MDA travel chargers and two ipod usb charger bricks and two Jawbone charger bricks, all of them 1 amp chargers (as opposed to the 700ma 8830 travel charger I have). In each case if I plug in the charger to the 8830, I get the charging symbol for a few seconds and then it disappears.

Is this typical? I would prefer not to have to carry a separate charger for the 8830, but just one for all the gizmos I have.

One would be preferable. I went through about 3-4 third party autochargers before I found one that would charge. Most did the same thing as you describe, charging symbol for a couple of seconds, then nothing.
