Default Emails Disappearing from BB - 04-18-2008, 09:47 AM

I am having an issue with emails disappearing on my Blackberry. They are being delivered fine (I think) but after a period of time they just disappear from the blackberry. They are still in my outlook (we run on a BES), but they are gone from my Blackberry.

I've spoken to someone in our tech support group who had me pull the battery and also reactivate the BB but that hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this. I have not changed any settings or anything and the messages aren't listed as "saved" or being filed away. They are in my inbox in outlook and are unread.

Please help!!!

Could be that your device memory is low. If you go into Settings>Options>Status what does it say for file free?

Hmmm.. Strange. Not sure what will be here for you as I have a different phone and maybe different handheld software.. But if you go into your email icon, then click Menu, Options and General Options, what does it have for "Keep Messages"?

And if you could this would definitely help.. Try narrowing down when the emails disappear. Like do you receive them on your BlackBerry on the way to work and then when you get to work you open your outlook and they disappear on the BlackBerry?

Its set to keep messages forever, its always been set to that so I don't see that being an issue.

I can't really pinpoint when they disappear, it seems to be completely random.

What's the setting on how many days to retain messages? Also, check this post, many great suggestions:

Hmmmm.. Not sure if this would do anything because you're on a BES but better to be safe than sorry.

Try going into your Outlook, then Tools>Email Accounts>Next>(highlight your email)Change>More Settings... On that screen do you see anything that says "Leave A Copy Of Messages On Server" or similar to that? Oh yeah.. This is all for Outlook '03, '07 would be different.

No, don't see any setting like that. I checked the posts mentioned above, but that is more for disappearing call logs and sms messages, not email.

It says that specifically but they talk about the "messages" folder. That can include email too.

Hmmmm.....Has this always happened or did it just start happening?

Out of the blue means that something in the systems changed somewhere. Has anyone else on the BES experienced this or just your phone?

This is very low. You should have a minimum of twice that. As for the deletion, are you deleting anything or moving your emails into folders on your desktop messaging system? ie, if you have exchange/outlook and you set a rule that certain emails go into a subfolder that isnt redirected, this would cause the messages to disappear off of the device. Also, if you delete them from Exchange, they may move into your deleted email folder, which may or may not be redirected. go into message > menu > view folder > and see what BES folders you have there. Check those folders and see if the emails are just not in the inbox.

According to tech support, nothing has changed and no one else has reported anything like this.

I would say try reformating the phone again. Download the handheld software from your carrier BlackBerry support site and upload it to the device.

Did you check the link in my post above or search the forum for how to maximize your free memory? As the bb memory gets full (remember, apps and emails are stored on the device memory, not the media card), old messages and phone logs get deleted automatically to make room for the new stuff. Looking at your 5MB free, I'm really thinking it's a memory issue.

i did go throught the steps and cleared some stuff out, so we'll see if that helps out. Is there any way to delete the standard ring tones that I don't use?

do you have a media card? remove the media card and then go into your media app. remove all images there, all ringtones, all other types of media.
