Default BB8830 a few probs - 04-30-2008, 10:17 AM

Hi,

First post in 8800 series. I have BB8830 about a month. Has been master reset at least 5 times after turning phone off,
pulling battery out, taking BB back to Alltel store, etc. All anomalies listed below have been evidenced by Alltel store - 2 days ago - so another master reset.

1. At least once a day, I can't connect to BB internet. Just sits requesting and times out. Was told that BBs are reporting this difficulty with Alltel connections.

2. Hourglass keeps spinning and I can't ESC. Turn BB off, turn BB on, enter PW and hourglass still spinning.

3. Have strange entry in Alltel HRT - only IP address in BOLD - Alltel [20840]. No one at Alltel knows what it is. Checked other 8830s and this IP is not in other BB8830s at store or in Alltel tech's BB.

4. When BB turned on, immediate error appears: Uncaught Exception:
java.lang.Error.

I've had new Service Books downloaded, master resets galore, tech set up BB again 2 days ago and still have same probs.

I bought BB with 4.2 software a month ago and now am told I need latest software update.

Does someone know what update number is, please?

Thanks and apologize for lengthy thread but I am so frustated and I love this BB.

Thanks.

1. Alltel itself has had some network downtime this week.

2. a) Don't turn off the BB, instead, remove the battery while powered on, hold 30 seconds, replace and allow it to reboot.
How do I reset my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ
b) A spinning hourglass can be a sign of low memory, or the cache needs clearing. Read this thread for additional info:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-logs-sms.html

3. The bolded entry is the active connection. Ignore it.

4. You may need to reload or upgrade your OS on the handheld.
Complete detailed instructions:

Good luck, you will be fine.

Your connection to the internet this week could simply be network related, I just know I have seen some Alltel customers post they had some network outage issues this week. It should work ok overall... post back here in this thread if you have more questions as you proceed.

Hi, JSanders:

Thanks again. I have followed instructions and learned I have 223216 (22.32 MB) of memory.

1. have no languages other than English.
2. I clear my browser cache every internet usage.
3. I use Memory Cleaner quite. often.

And, so far, (all day and evening) I have been skating along on my new BB really fast and without interruptions.
You techies are great!
Thank you bunches and bunches

22MB is pretty good, but 223,216 does not equal 22.32 MB.. I hope you left a few digits off that number.

Good job!

Thanks, JSanders:

I was so excited. Lol

Just a note. Spoke with Alltel earlier and was told it was a BB8830 prob. It's about a week now.

And the witching hour began at approx. 10:45 pm - right after I sent you happy reply.

Getting 3 requesting access tries but at least I know it's not my BB!

Thanks again.
