I created a new profile on my 8820 with the intent of using it for one contact. I created the profile, set up the notifications and created an exception choosing the contact out of the address book.

After I completed this setup, every SMS message I received used the notification tone I set in that profile instead of the tone selected in the Normal profile which was active. When I received a call from that contact my phone did not ring at all.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with profiles?
