Default 8830 Auto On/Off - 05-05-2008, 08:57 AM

First, does the Auto On/Off feature just address the data service or does it shut off the phone and SMS messages as well?

Second, I have enabled it and, it does not work. I searched the site and found some information about furture event reminders. Is there a way to find those so if that is the problem, I can correct it?

1- Auto On/Off shuts the BB off and back at a predetermined time. Calendar appointments and Alarms will override it to alert you. It turns the device OFF, all phone, SMS, and data is off for the period.

2- Yes, it does work. Look through your calendar to see what you have set to alert you.
Rather than just saying it does not work, can you state what error you are getting?

As always thanks for the input.

1- So it shuts the entire device off.....that’s not what I am trying to achieve. I am looking for a way to just not get e-mails when I am trying to sleep; I have 3-accounts setup. Could I just turn off the data service, and still have the Phone and SMS’s work?

2-What is happening is that I have enabled the feature, yet a 2 am a span e-mail comes in.

1. Then you don't want auto on/off. You want either to turn data off (Options > Mobile Network > Data Services = OFF).

Or better yet, (I think) is create a Sleep Profile so that ONLY your Phone and SMS will alert you in the middle of the night, and all email, etc., will remain silent.

1- You need to create a new profile to turn off the alerts for email and leave the alert on for the phone and SMS.

2- I have the 8830 with Verizon and my auto on/off works beautifully. My Blackberry turns off at 10pm and turns back on at 6am just like I have it set in the options. In the Auto On/Off options you have to enable for both the weekday and weekend and then tell it what times to turn off and back on.

JSanders pretty much sumed it up.

Spam E-mail an endless war, do you have any spam filters setup on your email account, Gmail does a pretty good job at keeping that at bay for me.

For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

I agree.

Compared to other e-mail accounts I've had, g-mail is by far one of the best at recognizing spam IMO.
