Default 8830 Ghost - Keyboard/trackball/Mute/Power - 05-05-2008, 05:37 PM

My BlackBerry 8830 has started typing on its own, muting while i am talking to someone, attempts to reply to emails and saves them in draft mode, enables radio even when it is disabled. My trackball enter, my power button, my "a" key, my back button, my "alt" button are all working intermittently (mostly not working but one of it works).

I have no idea what is causing this but it is truly driving me crazy.

I called verizon customer support, they were very helpful, they got me to wipe my whole device and then reactivated me. I was happy for but 2 minutes, the ghost in the machine is back.

Any ideas? Is it possible it is a software thing?

I don't think i had bluetooth enabled (so i don't think there is a trojan or something installed by someone else). I think after wiping the device it would be extermly difficult for a Trojan to still be there (atleast i hope so), thus i hope i am not hacked.

The only thing that is different between when it was not doing and when it started doing was i went out and had it in my pocket in the cold weather for a couple of hours.

Any suggestions, possible solutions.

Apart from sending the device back to Verizon, i would appreciate any possible suggestions, solutions that you have seen help somewhat.

thanks

There is no such thing as a "trojan" on a BB, if you are referring to a virus or such.

Keeping it your pocket will create all kinds of havoc on your device. I would expect it to dial, call, type and scream to get out of there and into a holster.

My track ball sometimes has issues. I pop it off and clean the lent out. Maybe you have to clean under your keyboard.

When you said Verizon had you wipe the device, did you go into options > security > general setting > menu key > wipe handheld?

What Operating System are you currently running (Options > about)?

jsconyers:

Verizon had me do exactly what you mentioned (options > security > general setting > menu key > wipe handheld).

operating system I have is v4.2.2.176 (platform 3.0.0.79). I think it is the latest, atleast based on what i can download from verizon's website.
