Exclamation Help getting blackberry email setup - 05-07-2008, 12:41 AM

I have a strange situation: my dad owns a blackberry 8800 and I'm trying to get his email setup on it. He has a Microsoft Exchange email address that he used with his old blackberry, and now he has a new one and needs to get it setup. the Exchange address forwards a copy of each email to his blackberry address - [email address]. That was how it used to work - he could then access the email from his blackberry. Now the blackberry is saying that it can access the email address [email address], but when I try and send an email to that address it bounces, and when I login to the blackberry site for ATT (BlackBerry Internet Service) it lists his email address as [email address]. which address is right? is this why i can't for the life of me get his email setup? he of course doesn't know if he's on BES or BIS or whatever, he just wants his email working. I don't even know how to find these things out - one thing i have found through hours of research is that he doesn't have an email setup icon, so that's supposed to mean he doesn't have BES. Please help!

Wirelessly posted (8700g)

I've read that the cingular address has been phased out. Can't tell you more, but search and you'll find your question has been asked and answered. My suggestion is use the att address and see if you can make it work.

By the way, you mention exchange. was the previous blackberry on BES and the new one needs to be activated on the BES in its place?

A couple points, first, not a good idea to post an actual email address here. Second, not a good idea to use the carrier supplied email address either. You open yourself up to lots of spam, particularly since you put it here and second, since you don't own the address, you can't take it with you when/if you change carriers. Thirdly, the address can change at any time, as you are now experiencing. And last, but not least, the only way to read mail to that address is via the BB itself, so in the event of a BB outage, you will be without e,mail until the network comes up and you could lose messages as well.

If possible, I suggest using BIS to set up the email.
