Default Delete key does trackball function - 05-07-2008, 04:00 PM

Hi All,

I've used these forums for all sorts of answers and tricks regarding my 8830. In the last few days a new problem has developed which has me boggled. Whenever I press the delete button, it performs the same function as pressing the trackball. If I'm in the menu, it opens the applications, if I'm typing an email and press delete more than twice, the email gets sent. This is driving me nuts. Has anyone ever seen this?

Thanks.

Are you sure that you are not hitting the enter key? If you are sure it's the delete key the have you tried a hard reset (Battery pull while the device is on) if not do so and see if it goes away.

It sounds like the keypad probably got some moisture in it.

I second John Clark on that, a little moisture may cause the keyboard to malfunction. Throw it in a cup of uncooked rice overnight, see if that helps.

Thanks guys. I can guarantee I wasn't hitting the Enter button. It would have put a line break in an email, not send the email. I had a couple coworkers verify the problem too. I have a line of interupted emails to show for it.

The reset seemed to have worked. I took the battery out for about 20 minutes. I'll watch out for the moisture issue, I may try to rice trick too. Thanks.

I had this problem come back maybe 4 hours after the hard reset. I'll try to rice trick and check back in.

No wonder the price of rice is going through the roof!
