Make sure you're downloading the proper OS. It must be for an 8830. Also, double check the vendor.xml file. It gets loaded with Desktop Manager AND the OS, so it's possible to delete it and then have it load back again.

What OS did you load to the PC? And what OS is on the device? Look in Options >About.

Is this the one?

In Desktop Manager, go to Help >About and then go to the device software tab and you can see what OS versions DM is recognizing.

If you follow the instructions there exactly, it will work. As long as you have an 8830 and are downloading the 8830 OS. When you say the phone is not updating, what exactly are the steps you're taking. Did you run DM then open application loader?

Does Desktop Manager recognize that your BB is plugged in? In Connection Settings in DM, choose PIN: XXXXXXX. Does it show a PIN number there?

In Desktop manager go to Help >About Blackberry Desktop Manager. Then go to the Device Software Tab. Post exactly what is in there.

Then you haven't installed the Device Software. You've only installed Desktop Manager. Download the OS from the post above and install it to your PC. Be sure to delete the vendor.xml file again afterwards.

Please just follow the instructions step by step and in order. The instructions are in the post above. It's very simple. Make sure the BB is not plugged in while you do the following:

Install Desktop Manager to PC (if not installed already)
Install Device OS to PC
Delete vendor.xml
Plug in BB and run Desktop Manager.

It should prompt to upgrade.
