Default Using the 8830 abroad? - 05-14-2008, 05:54 PM

Hey guys, I have an unlocked 8830 and I will be travelling to London for 3 months. My carrier does offer me the option of using their SIM card while abroad for calling & data services, but even so, it is not particularly cost effective to do so.

What I'd like to do is use a UK sim card (network doesn't matter) and have data services. Can this be done? I am assuming that if it would work with my carrier's SIM, then a domestic SIM with a data plan would also work. Is this correct?

Basically, can I use data services abroad with a different network's SIM card if I subscribe to data services on that network?

Many thanks in advance.

Getting the BB data services on another network's SIM card will be the issue, but if you can do so it will work. Many use the US SIM for data, and swap the SIM for voice.

As a quick addendum, with Verizon you may need to check and make sure that the device is unlocked and will accept a SIM from another carrier. Sprint does this from the get-go; VZW used to lock that out.
