My 8800 got wet...it was laying in a puddle of condensation from my water glass on my nightstand overnight. I dried it out in a bag of rice on my cable box for about 24 hours. There are no signs of condensation on the screen or any moisture anywhere else.
Now when I power up, I get a red light for about 5 seconds but no display.
I hear a few beeps from applications starting up, but the radio doesn't seem to work as I can't make nor receive calls. I can't confirm much of anything without a display tho.

I'm not under warranty, I don't have insurance, and I'm under a large corporate plan....so I don't get much in-store support. I'll have a pretty hard time getting my employer to replace my device, so I'm kind of on my own here.

Any other testing ideas? Based on your experience, would I be a good candidate for a replacement screen? Or do my tests show other problems.

You likely fried it if you powered it back on after 24 hours.

I figure something probably got fried as it layed (or laid) there in a puddle of water (while the phone was on) for most of the night.

An update....
After I requested (and got approved) a new BB....
This weekend...6 days later I went to buy the right size Torx screwdriver to disassemble my BB. Once I got the BB disassembled I put the battery in and amazingly the display lit up. I looked around and then reassembled it. I put the SIM in (and once I got it oriented correctly) everything works like new.

The moral of the story...don't give up.

I've done this with a motorola krzr but i was swimming the phone was in the water for a good 20 minutes before I realised it was still clipped on my shorts.Figured it was toast so went & paid for a brand new one..3 days later my drown one came back to life absolutely nothing wrong with it..lol

You never know with water damage what might happen in the long term. I have had devices that got wet that came back to life and then fail and/or had intermittent problems later. This is caused by corrosion that takes place when they are not completely cleaned and dried out properly. It's good that you are getting the new 8820.
