Nevermind what I said about switchign networks, apparently you can't even switch networks with the default BB OS for the 8800...weird.

Worked ok for me.

It needed to reactivate and for some strange reason did it twice.

After the upgrade Google maps stopped working. Tried installing the latest version but after it installs it stops at 10% for ages and eventually reports an error saying that it needs a network connection?

Even more strange is that Live search now works when it didn't before the upgrade.

Very odd, but overall much better interface and looking good so far!!

This would be a downgrade from Applications .42, as this is .37

Every time i've tried 4.5 on my 8800 it works fine until I put in my SD card with data on it. Fresh format card fine. Any data (pics, video music) BB reboots every few minutes. Downgrade to 4.2 all's fine with the card again. Strange.

Same here. Have mass storage mode on and had my desktop background on it. BB reboot almost instantly. Moved desktop pic to internal memory, reformatted, changed encryption to device. Still reboots after I use something on the card. Hoping a fix is soon coming as the OS is great otherwise.

How do you reformat the MicroSD Card? I am starting the install process and have removed my Micro SD to back it up to may laptop.

I will wipe it in Windows and see what happens. I can always transfer the items back later. Is there a way to reformat it on the BB?

Thanks,

Mark

Wonder if it's card specific. Can anyone running 4.5 on their 8800 use media on a microSD card? I have a 2 Gig "Patriot" brand (was at the t-mobile store when I bought the device) which, despite reformatting twice on Windows and the Blackberry, will cause a reboot if I open a media file on it.

I installed the new 4.5 OS on my 8800 yesterday and it works great, even with the MicroSD card. I have a 4 GB SanDisk card. I have tested several mp3s and videos, and no problems to report so far. I have had trouble with 2 applications so far that will not seem to run under the new OS, but they are not critical.

Default Continues to Reboot - 06-14-2008, 10:07 PM

Some folks have deleted some programs from their 8800 and things have been fine. Wondering if you can share them with us.

Also, once the SD card is reformatted and data reloaded does the constant rebooting problem go away? - I have a kingston 2GB card.

Thanks.

Son of a gun! I'll be installing this tomorrow. Maybe it'll fix my silly Media Card problem finally. Or maybe I'll just keep dreaming.

Not for me it hasn't. I've already pared down to a few extra apps (Viigo, GMail and Maps, Superpages Mobile, and the BB-pushed facebook and IM clients) and will test with just what the OS and T-Mobile provides before I grab another microSD card, but if I can run a 4 gig chip in there it will be there soon .

I've tried it on 2 different 8800's and 3 different DS cards. Same re-booting issue. I tried re-formating and reloading with negative results. Empty SD fine. Any data NG.

After reformatting the SD Card copy your files across in small incremental steps (do not copy a large amount of data over to teh SD Card on one go). I also, saw the symptoms described above until I did teh following (well, it worked for me) :

I had a policy on my blackberry 8800 (second hand from ebay) that prevented programs like mobipocket accessing the micro sd card even though I had replaced the policy with a blank one. Installing 4.5 certainly has fixed that. I didn't have to change anything, the restrictions just vanished.
I use a san disc 2gb card which is what I"ve seen recommended quite a lot. All files on it (from my old 4.2 install) work fine.
I did have trouble playing videos but after I deleted xplayer 4.2 the native video player started working perfectly and includes full screen view.
Since installing 4.5 I downloaded Cortado connect and that isn't working but I suspect some programes have not caught up with the new os yet.

Just deleted Cortado and re-installed and it works fine. I think I found the same a couple of days ago with Vigo news reader.

Ok, my browser is back, and I have given up on BB Maps.
How can i get the HTML Email Viewing up and working without 3rd party software.
IT is supposed to work in this release.

Tim

If anyone has the cure for my BB Maps Problem, please drop me a line.

Default my media card issue seems to be resolved - 06-15-2008, 08:37 PM

I'm not sure if the Facebook 1.2 app was the culprit, as I've reinstalled it after adding other apps back to my 8800, but here's what happened:

Started with a "javaloader -u wipe"(ed) TMO 8800 without any third-party software and was pleased to see media card operating well. The following apps are what I had on my 8800 with OS 4.2.1 (assume the latest version available for all):

Viigo,
GMail,
GMaps,
Superpages Mobile,
Facebook,
IM clients.

First I used Advanced Restore to restore only Mail Messages/SMS/MMS/Calendar/Contacts/Notes/Tasks/Bookmarks. Manually configured/added everything else, re-synced with Blackberry Desktop.

Installed Facebook 1.2, browsed some media on the microSD card and it crashed shortly thereafter.

Uninstalled Facebook 1.2 through Applications, tested OK.

Installed Viigo, tested OK.

Installed GMail, GMaps, tested OK.

...hours later

Installed Superpages Mobile 2.0, tested OK.

Backup up everything as-is.

Re-installed Facebook 1.2, and it tested OK.

It's been a few hours, I've added and played media from the card, I've updated my Facebook status through the app, browsed, used the phone/email with everything installed as described and it's been stable. If you have Facebook 1.x installed, can't hurt to remove it temporarily to see if this resolves the issue - can't guarantee it's the culprit, but it worked (and broke, then worked) for me.

I thought Documents to Go from DataViz was supposed to be part of OS4.5. I downloaded yesterday and it was not included.

Some of the things I like about 4.5
- remembers font and wallpaper setting for each theme.
- email dialog boxes
- built in spell checker
- new format for address book
- ability to create group mailing list on the Blackberry
- Voice Note recorder
- ability to view YouTube videos

Some incompatibility issues:
- BES Mailbox (contacted Ani at gemempower.com and he is working this)
- My Free Disco Bowling game hangs

Thanks,

Mark

I tried this on my tmobile 8800 and all looked and ran very well... the only thing wrong was I could not get it to connect to the Tmobile network... or even the RIM network =/

Anyone with a US Tmobile 8800 have any luck?

errrrl, if you scroll through this thread, you'll see more than one TMo use has commented it was working for them.

Still, i would recommend waiting a later release of 4.5, probably on a few weeks ago.

Default Constantly rebooting - 06-16-2008, 05:29 PM

I installed the new OS and activated my business enterprise account. Everything seems to work, but the unit reboots itself after about minute. The hourglass then spins for a couple of minutes and I can use the unit again for a short time. Any idea as to what the problem could be? I have the same problem as the other users with respect to retrieving files on my memory card.

Thanks.

Welcome to BBF.

Your media card is causing the rebooting. You need to reformat it in OS 4.5. Reformatting erases all data, so you may want to back it up first.

I was a bit skeptical about installing v4.5.37 on my 8800/ATT after reading all of the horror stories on the various forums, but I was tired of being wired to my head set, so I took the plunge, and installed it today after a couple of clarifications from John Clark. It took about 45 minutes to install most of that was on the last device reboot process (about 30 mins). But it works great, restored all of my 3rd party applications, didn’t bother the SD card and even kept iberry themes. So far I am a happy camper. Thanks you guys for being out there.

I mentioned ealier that I couldnt connect to tmobile/etc... well I went back to a default tmobile OS and back to this version and all is well

Very happy with everything... seems quicker, m.youtube.com works just fine too Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this forum and keep up the good work!

btw I had to format my card with the 4.5 OS like the others have mentioned ( I had 1 reboot, but since reformating the card there has been no problems ).

Aloha!
