Default 8800 OS: 4.5.0.52/4.5.0.37 vodafone.de - 06-12-2008, 09:28 AM

Latest 8800 OS: 4.5.0.52/4.5.0.37 vodafone.de
This OS will load on any carrier's 8800 model as long the users follows the instructions below exactly as written.

Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.37
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
* File name: 8800M_PBr4[1].5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37.ex e
* File size: 78MB

Click here to download:
Hilfe & Support / BlackBerry / BlackBerry-Handhelds / BlackBerry 8800 vodafone.de

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Link to Previous OS Thread: Click here

*Note: During Beta testing of this OS on TMobile devices many sim cards were "fried" and had to be replaced. Load on TMo devices at your own risk.

*Note: Also, on all devices it's a good idea to make a backup of your media card before loading OS 4.5. Constant reboots can occur when using media cards formatted in OS 4.2 or 4.3 in OS 4.5. Then reformat the media card in OS 4.5 and restore your data.

*Note: While in Application Loader be sure and check the boxes to add Documents To Go to your device. Failure to install Documents To Go will cause java errors in some 3rd party apps.

No, No, No - you would probably brick your phone, which has a CDMA radio in it since this OS is for GSM phones.

Thanks,

Mark

BeaverBerry, I would advise you to read through the threads on OS 4.5 over in our "Beta You Then Me" section for upgrade advantages.

The file is not yet fixed and I don't expect it to get fixed today as it is already late in the evening in Germany.

If you are connected to your corporate network (either on the network directly or via a VPN) then the re-activation will occur automatically. You ALWAYS have to re-activate after upgrading - the issue is whether it is done automatically or whether you need an Enterprise Activation password from the BES Admins.

Default Blackberry Maps. - 06-13-2008, 09:29 AM

I manually erased the Blackberry Maps from my 8800.
Now I can not get them back on there.
The Browser is working, T-Mobile had to send me the service books again.

How can I get the 4.5 Blackberry maps back on the 8800.
In the desktop Manager, Applications, there are no longer listed there, and the i click add, and I get a error message.

Any one know how?

Greeting
Tim

Tim, if you go back to Application Loader in your Desktop Manager, is BlackBerry Maps listed in the applications, with or without a checkmark in the box.

UNchecked means not loaded. Checking it should load the app. For some of us AT&T - US users, a service book for BB Maps to be enabled is required. I don't know what TMO might be doing in Germany, if similar?

Hi, that is my problem, it is no longer there. With or without a check.
it is totally gone from the list.
i just tried to delete the Service book with the hope that i could see it again in the list.
Not the service book is gone and the option to install..

See. I have just the opposite issue, I don't know BB Maps installed to the device, and everytime I plug into DM, it asks me if I want to load it. I should just delete the COD file from the Java folder in the install directory.

Maybe you need to look there to see if the cod file loaded, or even re-install the OS on your PC?

I hate to ask, do you have to use BBMaps? Here in the US, many of us are beginning to find there are as good and better alternatives.

it would be nice to get this running again.

Anyone wants to comment on the stability or speed? Is it worth installing or should I wait for a later revision?

Thanks

My only issues with this release were in regard to the browser text entry box, and the ability to click on some "send" buttons after text entry.

Speed - great
Stability on this release (referring to EDGE signal stability) - great.

I'm on a BES, previous OS upgrades required me to request an activation from my BES Admin but not this time. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that DM 4.3 is connecting to the BES and recognizes that the PIN associated with my account matches the one of the device connected via USB.

The only thing I noticed it that my calendar has a bunch of double entries. Application loader restored my calendar at the end of the upgrade process then the BES activation reimported my calendar, so pretty much everything is doubled now. It didn't do it with the contacts, notes and todo.

Just delete the "_VendorID=" entires from the blackberry.alx file.

By the way, I think that removing my microSD card has fixed my reboot problem.

I love you guys......
