Not sure what they are officially but I've got a 2GB and 4GB that work great...both are Sandisk...

Not liking the new address book; 2 lines per contact. Would of been nice if they gave you the option to use 1 or 2 lines.

If you change the separator to Stripes, it's a little easier on the eyes.

Default ATT 8820 and version 4.5 - 06-17-2008, 04:03 PM

Do you have any ideas when version 4.5 will be available to use on an unlocked ATT 8820?

After a full day of being pleased with the upgrades in 4.5 I needed to use Telenav/AT&T Navigator and was surprised to learn that it is not supported on Vodafone v4.5 even though Telenav Navigator is available in Europe, go figure, now I guess I’ll have to wait until AT&T releases its version of 4.5. Anybody got any suggestions?

Updated mine yesterday and no problems so far whatsoever. BBmaps works, sdcard works, browser works and the OS seems much faster. I really like the new media interface. FWIW - I am on the TMO network.

After I installed 4.5 it reloaded all of the apps including ATT Navigator, it wanted me to reregister, after entering my name and email address clicking the trackball it goes through the login process and returns a message reading "ATT Navigator Not Available" which is not true since its showing up in the applications log, any suggestions. Everythings else works perfectly.

Are there more default themes available for 4.5 like there was for 4.2? The 5 available on 4.5 are pretty underwhelming.

Overall it's a quality update, but I recommend the full wipe before installing it.

Update your Blackberry.alx file removing any reference to _vendorid=

...save and sync...there are quite a few nice ones. I like the Dimension L myself.

Oh ok, I'll do that when I get home, I actually have a blackberry.alx file that was already modified, I always just copied into the directory when I did 4.2 installs. I did that again with 4.5 thinking it would work, and I was dead wrong. Didn't load any themes at all anymore, I had to do it again from scratch. Thanks for the help.

Before I take the plunge, has Yahoo Messenger been observed to work with 4.5 yet? Or do I need to be the guinea pig? (Being on ATT I had to go find the service books myself in order to get it to work, so I am reluctant to mess with success at this point.)

I may as well ask about JiveTalk while I'm at it...

There's another thread or two in the Beta You Than Me forum that talk about BBMaps and Google Maps on 4.5.

JiveTalk works fine... don't know about the standalone apps as I delete them and load JiveTalk instead.

Thanks, I'll go take a look at Beta You Than Me. If JiveTalk works then I should be fine if Messenger doesn't, though I have become attached to Messenger (despite having paid for JiveTalk).

I got a couple of emails in the usual hypertext format this morning then suddenly found my emails coming through in wonderful Technicolor and if I do menu/download images, complete with images. I get a daily art newsletter which I was considering unsubscribing to as it was becoming a chore to read. Now it has become something to look forward to every morning; a new painting every day. Great! I'm on UK O2 and I guess they just updated their network. They may do a 4.5 release?

All carriers should be releasing 4.5 over time.

Took the plunge and updated my 8800 on ATT last week with 4gb san disk memory card
-Initial upgrade didn't work with my memory card - the constant rebooting problem
removing the SD card did help though and used it very briefly
-Decided to wipe clean the 8800 and start from scratch by using the JL_Cmdr tool
-Reinstall 4.5 and reloaded back up, and my third party software one by one, a clean
wipe and install is definitely the way to go, I agree with that statement
-The memory card is another story....I backed up and reformatted the card, empty not a problem with the 4.5 and 8800.
-A simple copy and paste...caused the rebooting problem, so I bite the bullet and send the pictures from a mac via bluetooth to my phone, one by one ( I did created the folders first though through the phone)
-I finished one folder through sending via bluetooth it took...
-Subsequently I had luck by copying an entire folder directly on the memory card..where I avoided to copy the .bat thumbnail file...

Not sure if I was lucky or if there was some sort of logic behind it...but it seems like starting with some manual picture downloading and then complete copy and paste of entire picture folders did work without the 8800 to reboot.

All in all, I am pleased, the OS seems to be faster..and the new media application is quite good...however, don't see it as an earth shattering evolution though, I guess once the new BIS software gets loaded in the US, maybe something else will surface!

No other issues to report...in the way I am using my phone from the previous OS; but also no real improvement to call quality, or so..either, hence, I am not sure if there was anything on that end that has been corrected or got better, at least I don't detect it.

I do see that the fonts and overall visibility of text has improved..web browser and email.

Thanks to the forum and all the helpful tips and tricks, it definitely help to educate myself upfront

Cheers,
R
