06-24-2008, 12:04 PM
I'm about to buy a new phone and wanted to know which was better. Thanks in advance. I have a 8830 now and like it but this will be for the wife.

Neither is better.
They are completely different devices.
Your needs will determine which is better suited for you.
And you made a poll out of this? SMFH.

I voted I hate these polls, but only because this same question has been asked several hundred times...

The wife will like the 8330 better. It's smaller and the keys have space between them (where the 8830 keys are smashed together).

Is you will be traveling internationally the 8830 is the phone for you. Otherwise I can't think of a reason not to get the 8330.

Depends entirely upon the user's needs. What is good for me, most likely won't be any good for you.

and that is the ONLY reason I'm keeping the 8830..you cannot imagine the usefulness of having such a device until you travel abroad and leave CDMA country...

We will not be travelling abroad. And as far as this question being asked 100 times I just wanted an updated opinion now that its in the hands of people for awhile.

I would like a comparison run-down as well. I found the comparison provided by phonescoop (can't post links... yet)
indicating that the blackberry is a better all around device. I will not be traveling abroad either. I have 30 days to take my 8830 back if i don't like it. I have big fingers and maybe the curve works better for that. I also can't figure out why these phones appear exactly the same except for the curve having more features, talk time, standby, lower weight, easier keyboard, and smaller (except for 5 hundredths of an inch thicker).
So is there a reason to hang on to this 8830? Please advise.

If you are on Verizon and travel internationally the 8830 is their international BB device. Other than that, it is personal preference. I have an 8830 which is great! I came from a treo 700W back in January, WOW what a change.

Went with the curve. Seems like an obvious choice with the ability to rock an 8g card and a camera. Using both of those features to their fullest at present. I like the pocket for the curve but i feel like two hands are necessary with this phone and i rarely have two hands free. I'd like a solution that is like the pocket/pouch thing but that i can wing open with a single hand...
thanks for the advise

Wirelessly posted (8830)
I've had the 8830 (VZW) for a while and like it a lot. I did take it with me to Argentina in the spring where it did NOT work (Verizon claims it is one of the few unsupported countries). Many of my friends use the 8330 - I like the fact that it's a smaller, sleaker device with camera, but my battery life seems to be far superior. I also find their keyboard to be a bit flimsy...granted I prefer the keyboard on the non-VZW 8830 (why I have to use so much extra force to press down on my keys I do not know, but I got use to it quickly).

The 8830 is a world phone, it can be used in other countries.
The 8330 has more memory and a camera with ability to capture video...
Other than that, they are about the same.
If you aren't travelling outside the USA, get the 8330.

I know this question has been asked a ton and I hate to bring it up but I just entered the BlackBerry world and am very new to all the models/features/etc. I have a post asking between the 8830 and 8330 for VZW in the General Discussion Forum and from the replies there and the research I have been doing it seems like most people prefer the 8330 over the 8830. Does the 8830 over any advantages over the 8330 other than the World Roaming feature?

I wonder the same thing, is the 8830 better then the 83X0 in anything then the roaming? Anyways, i am dying to get an official, or proper working 4.5 os release.

How are the polls relatively even when I have barely heard anyone say the 8830 is better than the 8330. I know everyone says "well it really depends on what you need it for." Let's just assume that the World Roaming and the Camera are literally non-factors in this argument. In this case, which is better?

As I said previously, what is best for me probably isn't best for you. Only you can make that decision.
Enrich2u pretty much summed it up in a previous post:
The 8830 is a world phone, it can be used in other countries.
The 8330 has more memory and a camera with ability to capture video...
Other than that, they are about the same.

Hey, I am just curious. Why exactly are you switching to an 8330? I personally don't like my 8830, and wanted to see if you might possess the same reasons to change. Also, why not the 9530?

I switched to the 8330 from the 8830, The 8830 was a great device and think it was more solid my 8330. The camera on the 8330 is a nice novel item, the increased memory is the real deal breaker though, as much as I use my BlackBerry I need the extra memory . After using the 8330 for 7-8 months now, the 8830 seems really big lol.
For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.
