Default Washed Blackberry - 07-14-2008, 02:57 PM

Well, my wife washed my 8830.. It boots up, but reboots every few minutes.. And some keys don't work (I press D, and get djsey)..

I stuck it in the oven on low for awhile.. And that help.. But didn't fix it..

Is there anything to be done?

I miss my berry..

Should I soak it in alcohol, or just take it apart, wipe it down, and try and let it dry some more? It's been about a week since it's been turned off.. In a nice dry spot.. With no results.. I gotta feeling this ones gonna make great hockey puck..

I'm gonna have to have some kind of funeral for it.. :(

Wirelessly posted

Take it apart. Set aside the screen. Soak the rest in alcohol; 99% is better, or get some ethanol. Let it dry another full day. Reassemble. At this point it doesn't work anyway so you have little to lose. I would back it up first if it's functional enough that that is still possible.

It is important that you *not* get alcohol in the screen. I ruined one that way on my 7290 (the liquid got in and would never evaporate, even after a week) and had to buy a broken one for parts to swap in.

If all else fails they have some good deals on used ones on there saw a couple for $150!

I have Verizon and their insurance company is:

Asurion

Although they have a $50 deductuble the representative at Verizon told me that as long as you have the phone whether in pieces or not then you can file a claim. I was about to file a claim on mine since I spilled a glass of water on mine but miraculously it dried up and "healed" itself....lucky me! It's been at least 6 months since that happened. Actually this quote is from the site "Covered Incidents: Loss, Theft, Physical Damage,Water Damage" so maybe you don't even need to have the defective cell phone with you!

Hope you have cell phone insurance!

Good luck!
