Talking OS: 8820 4.5.0.52/4.5.0.37 (MultiLanguage) - 07-16-2008, 01:28 AM

4.5.0.37 os for 8820 on TurkCell. Multilanguage, including English.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.52 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.37
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
* File name: 8820M_PBr4.5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37_Turkcell .exe
* File size: 80.12MB

Here is the link

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...9F76F8A5BA6896

Instructions for installing on ANY 8820 (regardless of carrier

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager installed. If not, get it here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the OS file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Looks like BB is spreading the 4.5.0.37 that initially appeared on Vodafone.de to other carriers. Hope the final version will add some improvements to this one.

What's the most recent beta available? Do people think this would be a good upgrade from the previous stable 8820 os?

p.s. I found this: http://www.blackberryforums.com/beta...-versions.html so only one question left... I suppose I'll upgrade anyway.

Since this is a carrier release, I don't think it is considered a beta release and you would think the carriers do reasonable testing as they don't want to take lots of tech support calls.

I'm going to see what the latest is with Google Maps working on 4.5 and if it is, I'll upgrade tonight as I want HTML email.

First, if you're using an 8800 this is the wrong OS.

Second, no it's not considered a beta release but that doesn't mean it's bug free.

If you are on a BES (and have an Application Control Policy assigned to your account) then Google Maps 2.0 and higher won't work on your BB. I have been using 1.6.4 for this reason. If you're not on a BES then Google Maps works fine. Also, BES mail doesn't come through as html unless your BES is 4.1.6 or higher or your BES admin has hacked the 4.1.5 version (not likely.)

I'm downgrading as I was getting weird java errors... It was mostly nice looking, though.

Did you have Docs To Go installed? If you didn't install Docs to Go you'll get java errors on some/most 3rd party apps.

D'oh.

I didn't opt out of having it installed.... Also, google updater seemed to be being a bit screwy. I wonder if that was why...

Ok, try try again.

p.s. am I right to think that .46 is the highest 8820 OS seen in the wild?

4.5.0.52 is the latest in the wild right now.

You won't find it here, though, as it's still in beta.

It's annoying the way this stuff comes out in dribs and drabs. For future reference do all 8000 series OSs come out at the same time, but they have different installers depending on the model?

All 8000 series OS's are different. Each carrier decides when they release a OS update. Not all carriers release all updates nor do they release them at the same time when they do.

In other words, there is no rhyme or reason. You just have to keep checking.

7290 -> 8700 -> 8800 -> 8300 -> 8310 + 8100

I can now confirm that this OS version is a RIM release (RIM told operators that 4.5 for 8820 is now officially out, and other operators are waiting to finish internal testing before publishing links)...

Also - when upgrading my 8820, first time I got some weird error about unable to complete upgrade... Phone rebooted and worked with old OS... I rebooted PC and phone again, then upgrade went thru nicely.

With install - i added Documents To Go, which were not chosen by default, also added some east european languages.

First impressions - works nicely, fast enough. Sometimes unlocking keyboard takes 2-5 seconds, which is longer than before, but all in all phone is responsive and i love the new mail template/html mail support...

One thing that puzzles me is the Address Book - whatever i can not get old look back... Also - I think RIM nuked some fonts... I cant rememmber which one I ahd before - it was one of the Terminal Fixed ones... Gone now.. (or just renamed?)

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

We already knew this was an official release. Address book is what it is. I'm actually used to it now. As for fonts give the new alpha sans fonts a try. IMO, that's the best part of the 4.5 upgrade.

The only weird problem that I still have is with the Setup Wizard. It's getting lots of 404 errors (it seems to be on pages that are just info, not actually setting anything up)

I installed this update on my T-mobile 8820. UMA doesn't seem to be working (hotspot @home) any more. Any one else having this issue? Any suggestions?
