Talking OS: 8820 4.5.0.72 / 4.5.0.52 (MultiLanguage) - 07-22-2008, 12:17 AM

Software For BlackBerry® 8820 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.75 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.75
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.5.0.52
Software Platform: 2.7.0.66
File name: 8820M_PBr4.5.0_rel75_PL2.7.0.66_A4.5.0.52_Orange.e xe
File size: 75.92MB

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...3F7A83B1AC75B4

Instructions for installing on ANY 8820 (regardless of carrier)

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager installed. If not, get it here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the OS file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Link to the previous OS for this device, click here.

Rock-a-doodle.

And my own provider of all people (oops, wrong country)... now if they can fix the voicemail icon I can go on worrying about my real life...

Thanks a lot.

Isn't this a bit weird? .52 for 8820 never leaked and is being released by Orange Romania... Did anyone try this? Is it working properly? Thanks!

Installed it this morning over .37 and all seems well. Purely anecdotal but it seems noticeably faster overall. The BB Browser also seems to be faster with the few sites I've tried (may just be a coincidence though).

No noticeable memory leaks that I can see so far....

Make a 3rd party app backup before updating:

JC - i've previously done the third party backup trick using DM 4.3 and had no problems. I tried doing it today with DM 4.5 and OS 4.5 and couldn't get it to work. Have you tried doing this recently?

- This OS build seems to be better than the 4.5.0.46 build. Memory is higher and hasn't degraded over the past 4 hours.

-m.youtube.com still doesnt appear to work properly over wifi (videos won't load)

Any word on whether UMA actually works reliably with this one?

Although as I was posting elsewhere having UMA on seems to make my connection go from EDGE to gprs... and lose the ability to use the data plan...

Has anyone else had an issue with the "About" screen under "Options?" When I navigate to the Options screen and select about, nothing happens, just stays on the Options screen. I didn't install PTT or Voice Activated Dialing (VAD). I think there may be some information on the about screen pertaining to VAD, so not installing VAD might be causing this. Not really a big deal, Alt + Right Shift + H gives me all the version information I need, but I'm just curious.

Any ideas?

It's exactly because of VAD. I'm sure it was written in the post you read about choosing not to install it ;)

Nope

Note: When removing Voice Dialing it will disable the Options >About screen on OS 4.3 and higher devices. You can get the same info about device and OS by hitting alt + e a c e.

It IS written in my memory optimization post. You just missed it. I use alt + e a c e all the time. You can use alt + rt shift + H, as well.
