Talking Latest OS: 8800 4.5.0.92 / 4.5.0.69 (Multilanguage) - 09-12-2008, 04:21 PM

Software For BlackBerry® (TM) 8800 smartphone

BlacBlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.92 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.92
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.69
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.72
* File name: 8800M_PBr4.5.0_rel92_PL2.7.0.72_A4.5.0.69_Orange_F rance.exe
* File size: 73.81MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Click here to download:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...A5DFF913DF997A

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8800:

1. Make sure you have the Desktop Manager 4.2 or higher installed.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find the previous OS for this device click here.

I think .69 is much snappier than previous 4.5 OS's. IMO, .69 is the most stable that's come out. YMMV, of course.

Is there still a problem with the web browser and text fields?

I am on 4.5.0.37 and I have a problem where it will only go into a text field once and then I cannot go back and edit it. Has this been fixed?

No. You must have a version that specifies that it is for the 8830.

I gotta admit, it's an improvement over previous versions of 4.5, but it's still not ready for prime time. It's pretty clear what RIM is doing. They're using small markets to test out what is essentially beta software. They know people like us want this, they've seen how quickly non-authorized versions spread over the internet, so they've just decided to release it in spurts, monitoring for what bugs people are running into.

I have little doubt RIM is monitoring various BB forums and seeing what people are saying about the new OS. A lot of enthusiasts like us will upgrade their OS the day it comes out, far faster of a take-rate than compared to the typical BB user. They'll also use it more intensively, play with setting, install different software, and essentially take the OS to its limits.

Personally, I'd still like to see my icons stay hidden after a reboot and a better browser.

It's been a while since I've updated my firmware due to so many bugs and glitches and I'm happy with the way my device operates but I want the icons that the 9000 has. Is that what this firmware has?

*edit* still running 4.2 currently

No.

Icons are just part of a theme. Find the right theme that mimics what you want and your icons are there.

Does anybody know when the browser changed? Did it change from 4.2 to 4.5 or did it change in one of the 4.5 updates? I'm about to revert to 4.2 to get my old browser back but I would rather stay with 4.5 if possible.

What's wrong with the browser? 4.5 has the best browser to date.

I beg to differ.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ml#post1107371

The Go tab should just be a Go tab. Unfortunately for me they've decided it would be best to merge google(which I already use as my homepage), bookmarks and history which already have their own shortcut keys.

I'm currently in the process of reverting. Sorry 4.5, we just weren't meant to be.

Any word on if the battery draining problem is fixed? Cause when I changed to 4.5.0.55 the battery life only lasted about 8 hours!

Does anyone know when Verizon Wireless and Sprint will be releasing 4.5 for their blackberries? Specifically the Curve and 8830?

I'm having some problems getting this to load on my tmo 8800. Here is my issue:

Weeks ago upgraded to 4.6 desktop manager

when I connected blackberry, 4.6 desktop manager froze (this never happened with 4.5 desktop manager)

I followed the steps on this forum to completely remove 4.6 desktop manager and re-installed 4.5 desktop manager

I wiped my tmo 8800 handheld which had been running the previous build of 4.5 posted on this forum

I installed the download of this firmware

I plugged in the blackberry...no prompt to upgrade

I went to application loader and it says no applications need updating.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Erik

I'll ask the obvious question, did you remove vendor.xml first?

I tried using this upgrade and now my phone says error 507! I tried using the app loader to resume the install but it just fails again!

I have also tried wiping it with javaloader (this works, and then reinstalling the OS just gives me 507 again), and the previous version posted here! All result in 507! Is my phone ruined?? My warranty is expired!

I'm using the Today Plus theme.

Also, the caller ID does not always work. Half the time I just get just the number and not the name, even if they are in my phone book.

4.2 was certainly smoother, a bit faster, and had more bugs worked out. I do like the additional features of 4.5, especially the spell checker. Oh, and about the browser, just because it's the best one yet does not mean it's a good browser. It still has a long way to go before it catches up to the class leader.

The icon issue is the today plus theme, this is well documented. My guess is many of your other issues may also be theme related. I haven't seen any caller ID issues and the browser is much improved over 4.2.

These releases are no more beta then any RIM release. They are just a work in progress.

I think it would be a good idea to instead give a direct link to the download file, or at least to a page in English and one that doesn't make you fill out a long form asking for your Prénom, Nom, Titre, Société, and ask a bunch of Oui/Non questions that most people here can't read.
