Default OS: 8800 4.5.0.108/4.5.0.81 (English + East Asian Languages) - 09-25-2008, 08:32 AM

Software For BlackBerry® 8800 smartphone
This will work on any carrier's 8800 model.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.108 (English + EastAsia languages)

Package Version: 4.5.0.108
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.81
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.78
* File name: 8800EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_ Voda_Australia.exe
* File size: 71.87MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Click here to download

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8800:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Available memory went up. I installed it on my 8800 this morning. Shows 31638436 bytes free.

I have been running 4.5.0.81 on my 8310 for a couple of days now. It shows a similar improvement and seems to be a bit quicker than 4.5.0.69 that I had used for about a month.

Yowza. I just finished the upgrade and I've got more free memory, too. ~25 MB, and I've got loads of 3rd party stuff running.

Pretty snappy, too.

I'll report back with any issues or news I might find...

Mine is done upgrading. 25MB free memory too. Maybe it's a bug that it is reporting the same for everyone ;). It was 16MB pre-upgrade.

This is OS is much faster than my previous 4.5 version. It also has an AT&T theme that was not present on the earlier version.

Anyone do this on a Verizon 8830 World Edition? I need to get Chinese characters to display on this BB.

This OS has options for adding Chinese fonts. However, this particular OS is not for an 8830. It's for the 8800. It won't work.

Having some weird issue with BB Messenger with people unable to message me. The other person always see the message that I'm typing a message. Problem seems to occur over time. Gonna roll back to previous version.

The latest version of Google works for BES users who used to get the lockups at 90%. It should be GMM 2.3.1

Does 2.3.1 work out of the box, or did you install while on OS 4.2 and then upgrade to 4.5? I did the install then update the OS and it works for me, too.

It should work fine installing fresh to OS 4.5, I did just that.

I see a couple of users have had issues with it working, however.

I am happy with this one. I was for a month on 4.5.0.81, and had absolutely no problem. Then I moved to 4.5.0.92 from Orange France, and that one had crashes and was acting slow everywhere. Then I moved to this one 108, and I am back to a stable snappy OS ....

I've got T-Mobile and this OS seems more stable than the previous one that came loaded on the phone. I have not had one problem yet and installation was a breeze.

HTML e-mail is a big plus too.

I tried with verizon 8830 and can not get it to load. When it tries to upgrade to 4.5 it says their is an Invalid configuration and that their are missing files. Anyone have any thoughts?

This download is for the 8800. The 8830 thread is here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ge-sprint.html

Default Seems like a 4.2 thread - 10-29-2008, 03:16 PM

This thread only has downloads for 4.2, which I already have. Not obvious how to do download the 4.5 for 8830. New at this, sorry to be asking stupid questions, but have not seen a clear download site for this...help.

The post and downloads are clear. It lists 4.5.0.81 for the 8800. I notice your profile says 8830. This OS will NOT work on the 8830.

I don't think 4.5 has been released for the 8830. That's the real reason you're having trouble finding it.

I could be wrong (I don't track other device OSes), but whatever is listed in the thread John Clark linked you to is the latest available.

The only problem is that I don't have my native language (Greek)... Will wait for the multilanguage...

You get the same benefits everyone else gets from 4.5. Just install it. You'll like it.

I'm having issues loading this version on my Cingular 8800 w/ V4.2.1.72 (platform 2.3.0.54). I upgraded to DM 4.6 and installed the code for 4.5 from the link above. It is registered in DM, but doesn't recognize my device as a candidate for that version. Is there a trick to override this? Or are they not compatible for some reason?

Please allow a newby to ask few stupid questions:

I am with T-Mobile USA, 8800 runing 4.2.1.74

1) Will upgrading to 4.5.0.81 screw up my corporate email on my 8800?
2) With this upgrade, when I listen to music with Chinese file name or Chinese ID3 tags, will the proper characters show up in the music player (versus some gibberish that I see now)?

Thanks

Well that was fun!

Installing on 1st generation 8800 from Cingular.

Rule #1 ... remove your MEDIA CARD before attempting the upgrade. I must have had 4-5 failed upgrades and about 30 reboots today because of it. The remedy? Pull the card out. Do your upgrade, as described. Put the card back in, backup your media. Then format the card on 4.5. I found that if I used the Media Manager, it was the ONLY way that the phone would not reboot. I believe there are some format inconsistencies with certain jpg and mp3 that are causing the phone to crash when the media is loaded/accessed. Once I moved the files over using media manager, no more issues!!

Good luck!
