Default When do we get a 4.5 OS for 8830?? - 11-17-2008, 08:30 PM

I see that most models have the 4.5 OS... when will we get it for the 8830? I used to have a curve and liked the 4.5 OS for html email..

I don't know, but I gave up and installed latest beta OS 4.5.0.101. Note that is OS version not package version which is 4.5.0.138.

Oh yeah I love the new version.

Can I assume the beta OS's work fine with the 8830 when roaming globally?

Probably, but same time I doesn't go around roaming around so I wouldn't know for sure.

I don't know about roaming, but .101 is a fairly great beta. One thing I do know is that CDMAs get their os released a little longer then GSM does.

But it looks like the storm will be coming to CDMA before GSM.... nice but what that about... are we moving up in the ranks?

To me, the Storm looks like a bust. I wish they'd bring "Bold" to CDMA.

Yeah I am using the beta version in my profile. Life goes on whether they release an official 4.5 or not.

It will have issues about closing if played in full screen. Also the audio won't switch from headset to handset, to me very annoying, now I am impatiently waiting for the next release. :-|

I just for the email from RIM that 4.5 is now available for "8000" series phones. Not sure which version it is. I'm not at home as I write this (I do my updating on my laptop there).

Looks like the wait is over?

Default OS 4.5 update from RIM - 11-25-2008, 06:24 PM

I have an 8830 (verizon) with OS 4.2.2.196. I tried loading OS 4.5 beta with very mixed results, and spent the time to downgrade to 4.2.2.196 again. I received the newsletter today stating that OS 4.5 was available for the 8830, and tried updating 4 times. Each time apploader tells me my phone has the most current OS. I went to Verizon’s application site, where I found that 4.2.2.196 is the latest OS they have listed. Anybody know what gives?

Yes -- the app loader says I have the latest OS software for my 8830 - v4.2

The email specifically says my 8830 is ready for 4.5 though... What gives?

Be patient grasshoppa. If RIM doesn't resolve the issue shortly, someone on this forum will.

EDIT: FWIW, Bell Mobility's site also lists 4.2.2.196 as the most up to date version. Until they list a version of 4.5, I'll just keep using my Beta version of 4.5 which has been rock solid on 4 gyrations of the OS.

I've scoured the web a bit and it looks like RIM has not really released an official 4.5 for the 8830 yet regardless of what the email said. I'd imagine it's only days away before the install file starts showing up for real.

If we get upgrade from Verizon for 8830, will it be OTA?

mat123: not officially for verizon yet...

bcreekski: most likely not. I've heard that the storm will be getting OTA upgrades, but I've never heard of OTA upgrades for the 8830. I'd be more comfortable doing it through desktop manager anyways...
